Question about Minolta Video Cameras

Open Question

I picked up a Minolta Master 8-418 cam-corder at an estate sale. The video screen shows a jumbled picture when I try to play a tape. I am looking for output jacks to play into another recorder but the only thing I can find is a little door to the left of the lens. Is that an output jack for a special rectangular plug???? If so, where can I find a cable with that plug? Thanks, Harry

SOURCE: Blue screen on playback on Sony DCR-HC40

You can see an image in a camcorder viewfinder any time the camera's actually on in record mode, whether or not the camcorder is actually recording. So that's no guarantee.

Assuming the obvious (you have the right kind of tapes, they're not in write-protect mode, you rewind before playing, etc). I recommend that you borrow a tape of the same kind from someone else and check it on playback in your camcorder. This should lead you know understand if you have a playback problem or a recording problem.

Assuming you don't see any video through the viewfinder, it could be that the CCD has died on that camcorder. It happens, though not frequently.

If the video though the viewfinder is clear, there might be some sensor on the lens ring to indicate a lens cap, or an automatic lens cap not properly disengaging when put in record mode.

SOURCE: problem when connecting from cam corder to PC

I have a sony handycam carl zeiss vario-tessar and i just recorded a video on tape. I have a USB cable from a Vtech camera and I am trying to use it to transfer the video to my PC. So then I can send it through email. I also have a memory stick in the camera, maybe that would help me get the video to my PC. There is another cable that seems like it should work but when I plug it into the PC nothing happens. Please help me get this video to my PC so i can email it out.

SOURCE: hi i have videos recorded on tape with my samsung

mini usb cable also depends on what inputs your camcorder has but most of them have mini usb inputs then use windows movie maker to put it on the computer if you dont know what cable to get then just take it to the store and they will tell you what cable you need

Not used my vid cam for a long time but when played back some tapes played great. The following day I tried playback on the tapes & they all showed a blue screen. No images What am I doing wrong?

not sure on this one but it might be the heads in your vid cam may need cleaning.
or the tapes are not running straight on the heads or the rollers in side.
if the vid cam has been in a cold place it can cause this fault as the heads may have a bit of damp.
try putting a tape in and run it fast forword in play mode and see if starts to clear the playhead.if it does keep doing it until you see a clear picture.
this could also be a head misalignment fault if it is you will have to take it to some one to have a look at.
if any of the above does not work then you will have to take to some one to look at it.

I found an old Sears camcorder at an estate sale for 88 y/o Dad, looks in excellent shape. We cannot see anything but white, light square in viewfinder.

the old time camcorders used a vacuum tube instead of a CCD device to pick up the video signal , these were inherently unreliable and didn't last but a year or two in use, if you got an old one, and want to mess with it , yes these pickup tubes are replaceable , but finding a good one will be a challenge (what a great treasure hunt item!!!) hows the tape deck part of it , you know if that still works one can use them to play old vhs or beta tapes with movies on them , those you can still find , I see them at yard sales all the time 4 sale . the only other part you need is a composite cable , and of course an analog tv with a composite input (or a backwards compatible digital one) an you have a great vintage tv rig !!! what a fun project to build !!!!

Video on my Sony VCR (SLV-780HF) goes gray after playing a tape a few seconds. What could be the problem?

The only real cure will be to clean the video head. If that doesn't work then I'm afraid that whatever recorded you EP mode tape was not set up well tracking wise. So other machines struggle to track the tape. Some VCR's will only playback SP or LP tapes and don't have EP mode. In which case you should check to see if these VCR's can play the EP tape and if they can't find one that can.

My camera does not show what i have taped

Regarding no picture in playback is problem mostly of dirty / clogged video head in Sony handy-cam and can be corrected by using good quality video head cleaning tape.
As far as memory stick picture concern, I think lost pictures (42)would be in other folder on memory stick.
