The Olympus pen line of digital cameras all come with a compact kit lens. It collapses down inside itself a ways when not in use to keep it more compact. There is a small switch on the side that allows you to collapse it for storage. It is spring-loaded, and you have to slide it to one side while at the same time twisting the lens. It will then stow down much flatter. While the lens is extended and in use, this switch keeps the lens in its useful range and won't let you accidentally collapse it down. Good luck!

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel after dropping it. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful.

Regards
Andrea

Does not flash

It may be switched off. There could also be a break in the wiring to the flash. Without more, there's no way to know.
The first step would be to verify that the flash has not been set to "off" in the flash mode.

The LCD on my Epl1 has red flashes on all the images. Why???

It sounds like you have turned on the Highlight/Shadow point warning. I use this all the time to check for blown out highlights.
You should press the INFO button in playback mode to cycle through the picture display options until you get back to the display that you like.

I sounds like you have altered the white balance setting somehow. This will be in the setup menus. You want it set to auto. If it is already on auto, then I would think the camera has a fault.

Our olympus stylus verve dropped and the lens won't retract.

The problem you are describing is a problem with the lens assembly in the camera. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced.
Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product. The cost is $93 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price. The telephone number to Customer Service is 800-622-6372 option 2 and then option 3.

The lens won't retract

If the lens is stuck out extended you may want to call Olympus Customer Service to discuss repair process and pricing. If the battery is fully charged and the lens still stays extended then this is a clear repair issue as something in the lens assembly has failed. Their telephone number is 800-622-6372 option 2 and then option 3

Len will not retract

Bad Lens assembly, cost more to fix than replace.
Check the Olympus store for clearance items,
Pricewatch is a good one also.
Never buy a used one online, new is ok, because dropping them is the #1 reason for the lens assembly failure.
I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpfull.
Best regards, Paul

The unusual beeps usually occur when the lens cannot be extended or retracted, often due to dirt in the gearing or the lens cap being left on.
Try using canned air to blow around the outside of the extension cylinder, and, putting a fresh set of batteries in the camera (it probably got stuck on since it couldn't fully retract the lens and didn't complete the shutdown).
If that doesn't work, try taking it to a camera store with repair technicians and having them take apart and clean the lens extension/retraction mechanism.
