Color Separation and Arched Picture

My Sony TV has the three colors separated and the picture is arched (with the ends coming toward the viewer). Is there a quick fix to this or should i call a repair man (and around how much would that be?).

Thanking whoever replies.

Colors are separated in the corners of the screen and the picture is arched. Attempted Flash Focus and Convergence. Also did a power reset and a reset. Problem continues

I have the same problem and wouldn't you know, that it would happen less than 2 months after the extended warranty I purchased ran out. The TV is only 4 years old. I tried the Flash Focus and adjusting the manual convergence. Neither option worked.

What is the problem? Is there some other adjustments that I can make to make it a little better??

I'm done with Big screen TV's. This is the 3rd rear projection TV that I have owned that has failed shortly after the warranty has expired. I actually believe that the manufactures build little time bombs in their TV's that go off between the 4th and 5th year.

Please call a repair center. This is something you cannot repair your-self. It's usually around $200-400 for the repair depending on who does it.

I have blue arched lines and blue screen

HI:
Your problem is the blue CRT or picture has gone bad, you will need to have the picture replaced, there are three tubes in this model rear projection television. Red, Green, and Blue. Replaceing the blue tube is the only option for normal operation to resume. It may be hard to find the tube, but you can try contacting this website for the part www.vdc.com, they manufacture and usually have stocks of sony picture tubes and rebuilt ones as well. The company's name is Video Display Corporation...

if the option for convergence is still listed under the setting section of the on screen menu, then you need a convergence power supply board. If the convergence option is missing from the menu you need the ITC222 convergence missing repair kit. You can get either one at the following link they include instructions for the repair.

Color distortion and arched picture

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

White arched lines appearing on dark/black screens.

it sounds like you are seeing the vertical retrace for all three colors together (white). Its possible that all three screen adjustments (red, green, blue) are off, but I suspect a problem with the screen power supply.
there is also a recall on this set
