Either your CD/DVD drive is dirty & needs to be cleaned, or the drive has gone bad & needs to be replaced.
First, try to take the drive off the laptop. Open the drive & blow compressed air into it (from a can of compressed air) to clean it. You could also clean the lens (the small round glassy object inside the drive) using lens cleaning tissues & lens cleaning fluid.
If this did not fix the problem, you will need to replace the CD/DVD drive with a working one, or use an external CD/DVD drive.

Cd-rom stopped working

Make sure it has power (ejects). Check Device Manager in Safe Mode by pressing F8 during boot. Right click My Computer > Manage. Select Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices. Now delete all DVD/CD-ROMs and reboot. Windows will say "New Hardware Found" and install.
Check BIOS by pressing F key (correct F key is noted during boot) and make sure BIOS see's the Optical Drive.

Hi there, my Advent notebook (bought from curry's 3 weeks ago), is asking me for a "product key" when I open microsoft word. I have looked everywhere for this and can't find a number on the packaging...

Contact the dealer as the some of the oem installed softwres versions might not be found. They are having an alter keys of it as a back up so contact them if you dont found it on the bottom of the laptop case or on cd.

Advent netbook windows not loading on switch on

You will need to do a repair install of the windows operating system. This can be problematic on netbooks with no CD drive unless you have access to an external USB CD drive and a copy of the operating system.

Please rate this solution if it has helped you.
Thanks, Gary

Advent adaptors are unreliable

Every Advent product I have ever bought has been rubbish in some way or another. The Advent Powerline plugs are with out doubt the most unreliable pieces of **** I have ever used. I must have been through about 4 of these things now, and they just keep going wrong. Usually they just stop working one day and never come back on. Well done PC World for bringing this 'excellent' product to the wide audiences. My advise, stay clear of this and every Advent branded product you can. Spend a little bit more and you won't regret it.

Advent 7113 will not read cd drive

This could be the lense giving up.

Try a few different disc type (eg CD's DVD's CDrom, DVDrom etc) - if any of them work, that should indicate the laser is fine all round.

I'm trying to sort my Advent 7110 laptop at the moment, you haven't a recovery disc have u? LOL! Seriously though have ya?

DISC STUCK

Hi Ernie,

There should be a tiny little hole on the front of the CD drive, next to where you would usually press the button to eject it. Turn the laptop off (or at least wait until the CD stops spinning) and insert a straight paper clip into the hole. You will have to insert it perfectly straight and apply a little pressure. Doing this should manually pop the CD tray open.

Hope the helps!
