Question about Zenith B27A11Z 27" TV

1 Answer

Zenith TV My mother bought a Zenith TV in 2000, with all the talk about not being able to get a signal through her antenna if this TV doesn't have a digital tuner, having to purchase a box for conversion. My question is, how do I find out if this television is Digital or Analog? The machine numbers are B25A11Z & B27A11Z Your help would be appreciated, Thanks

I need to reprogram my zenith sy2568s tv to recieve available channels

With the remote control:
1. Press Menu repeatedly to view the Setup Menu. 2. Select Auto Program. 3. Use the Left/Right Arrows to advance to the next menu. 4. Select either OFF AIR ANTENNA or CABLE TV.* 5. Use the Left/Right Arrows to advance to begin the channel search.
*NOTE: THIS TELEVISION WAS MANUFACTURED IN 1996 AND HAS AN ANALOG TUNER ONLY AND WILL NOT RECEIVE OVER THE AIR SIGNALS AS ALL OVER THE AIR SIGNALS ARE DIGITAL NOW AS OF 2009. IN ORDER TO USE THIS TELEVISION SET FOR OVER THE AIR SIGNALS YOU WILL NEED A DIGITAL TO ANALOG CONVERTER BOX AVAILABLE FOR BETWEEN $30 AND $60. CHECK EBAY FOR GOOD DEALS ON THEM.

I connected an antenna to the tv that i bought from walmart $30. But tv cannot find any channels at all.

If you live in the city you should be able pick up to one three channels on the indoor antenna, but if you are outside of the general viewing area you won't pickup anything. Antenna's of this sort have a very short range when it comes to tv signals, it is also possible that your antenna is not digital ready, which means any station broadcasting a digital signal you won't be able to receive.

The picture freezes and the sound is lost. Until the picture returns and the sound returns, this happens every couple of seconds.

If you actually have the Zenith model TV (B25A24Z), the trouble is not in your set. This model has only an analog tuner, and what it sounds like you are describing is digital pixellation. This is what happens with a digital-to-analog converter box when it gets a weak signal, with rain fade or heavy snow on a satellite dish antenna, or when a digital cable system has some signal problems. The converter equipment locks the last complete frame (or breaks up into blocks and freezes) and the sound is muted.

You'll need to look for the cause of your trouble in whatever is feeding the TV. If you have a digital converter box for off-the-air broadcasts, make sure you have a good antenna and all the connections are tight. If you have satellite TV service or digital cable service, you might need to contact your service provider for help in troubleshooting and fixing the trouble.

How do I boost a digital TV signal?

No don't buy an LCD TV! I mean, unless you want to, they are nice :-) But you'll still have the same antenna issue. I looked up your antenna, if it's actually working just fading in and out, try an in line amplifier first (radioshack 1501170), and if that doesn't fix your issue, time to upgrade your antenna. It does get a little pricier, but do keep in mind the whole set up is good for 10-20 years. Before going back to RadioShack, go to this website:
www.antennaweb.org

If you live closer than 15 miles, rabbit ears
If you live closer than 20 miles, omnidirectional
If you live closer than 50 miles, midrange outdoor (oldschool arial w/ rotator)
Further than 80 miles, you'll need a long range with rotator, perhaps even an amplifier to go with it. Print off what your results were on antenna web and bring it to a RadioShack or a local antenna store and they should be able to point you to the right antenna for your particular location.

I'm looking for rabbit ears/antenna for my Durabrand T.V.

Radio Shack, Wal-Mart, etc. all carry a selection of antennas that will work with your converter box. Depending on the strength of DTV signals in your area, you may need an amplified antenna (has a built-in booster) to get good reception. Analog broadcasts were watchable with a weak signal (the picture would just be fuzzy), but the digital system needs a good strong signal. The sales people may be able to suggest an antenna based on what other customers have purchased and their reports of how well they do. Outdoor antennas are also available if needed.

Is the tv that I have bought about 6 years ago ready for DTV?

6 year old tv probably not digital ready. The converter box will work if tv is on channel 3 and you use a UHF antenna. Most converter box connections have 75 ohm connectors, your tv may have the round connector to accept the input signal. If you have screw on terminals on the tv you will have to go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a matching transformer to go between the tv and the converter box. UHF antenna can be made out of a coat hanger. Just make a circle clean the paint off ends and attach. Or just buy a digital booster antenna at WalMart.

DTV converter Box and Zenith system 3

I have the same problem.... On the back of the tv, there are three coax spots. One is for Cable, one is antenna decoder, and another is a loop. I have had zero luck getting any of those to receive the signal. Instead i have ran my digital signal to a vcr, then ran rca cables from it to my tv. I then put my tv in vcr mode, or aux depending on where you hooked it up. You can watch tv through your vcr this way.

Receive one channel with Coverter Box

Make sure those 6 channels are also being broadcast in Digital format also, otherwise your converter box won't have a digital signal to convert for your TV. The switchover date is early next year I believe.

Sanyo DS31590 and converter box

I just checked the owners manual online. Looks like this model only has an NTSC analog tuner. No ATSC digital tuner built in.

If you use cable or satellite TV services, the digital converters won't help you. The coupon-eligible ones are strictly for use with a traditional antenna. If this is your situation, ignore the remainder of this message.

If you use a regular TV antenna with this TV, then, yes, you will need a converter box. FYI, the Insignia model at Best Buy and the Zenith at Circuit City, and elsewhere (radio shack) have gotten good reviews from early purchasers. More converter box models will be available in a few months time.

If your current reception with your antenna is poor (snowy), you may have problems receiving the new DTV signals. If not, you should be pleasantly surprised with the quality of the DTV signals - and the extra "virtual" channels. Try the converter box using the RCA video and audio inputs, for a slightly better picture than with the coaxial cable inputs.

Good Luck
