Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. When you say a popping noise is it from the freezer or from the compressor area? If your hearing it fromthe freezer area it is normal during a defrost cycle or when the the unit has normally cycled off and some one opens the freezer for an extended period of time. If it is maintaining the correct temps do not be too concerned. FYI I have the MTB2156GEB version of this unit in my own home. It pops everyday... during defrost.

    Thanks for choosing FixYa.

SOURCE: Refrigerator makes a humming noise, compressor

You need to replace the overload /relay w/capacitor . Pt # 67005560 . This part runs about $30.00 , and easily replaceable . Just plugs onto the side of the compressor , with 2 or 3 wires pluged onto it .

Maytag Refirgerator Model MTB2156FE freezer not cooling below 32 degrees

HI PAUL.FREEZER NOT COOLING could be for many reasons.go through the basics first .1-check if your freezer is iced up 2 if yes defrost it all completely first .then turn on 3-if ok then your problem could be 4-defrost timer 5-defrost heater 6-t/stat.if not iced up then check /clean thoroughly the condenser unit 7-check con/fan 8-check condenser should be warm/hot.if cold and motor hot then it could be lack of refrigerant (internal leak?) hope this helps.ALI

My Maytag Wide by Side refrigerator has been making loud popping noises and now the freezer is not cooling properly. What is causing this?

Does not sound good. We need to find ou where the popping noise came from first. Not cooling is because it sounds like the popping noise is from that area but for sure that area. It could be a failed control board and shorted out the compressor relay.would like to go and do this yourself of have a technician like myself lead you through this? I'm going to get the service manual and if you would like a copy I will get it for you, Thanks and let me know soon, Sea Breeze

We had the same thing happen a little while back. The compressor went out and had to be replaced (it was under warranty, but the labor wasn't covered)

Amana/Maytag ACD2234HRS sometime not working

If your compressor is running with the noise you described, I would make sure the parts that were replace on compressor are working properly. Also use a amp meter and get a reading on amp draw while it is humming. Anything that is above normal readings for the compressor would indicate compressor is bad or the relay and starter are not working properly. I need a series number also like a number 15 before the model number, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Kenmore refrigerator 253.57192600 making clicking noise

It could be as simple as a bit of expansion and contraction of the wall panels or the damper which allows cooling to flow from the freezer to the fridge side.

Refrigerator humming noise and loss of coolness in freezer.

the relay overload on the compressor is bad. its a very common problem. replace the relay overload and it will start back up again. ( relay overload is what your calling the starter)

Popping noise

what you are describing sounds like the refrigerant flowing through the evaporator that is in the freezer. when the weather is hotter and more humid out the unit has to work harder to keep it cool so you may hear more noise due to the compressor running longer and more often. so most times it is normal to hear it at some point in time.
