Question about Digital Cameras

1 Answer

I have a 1GB SD card that has some great pictures of my daughter's soccer team, I can view them on the camera (Lumix FZ20), but when I put the SD card in my laptop or connect the camera to any other computer, I can't find the pictures. My Computer shows an EMPTY folder titled "MISC" and a shortcut item (that does not work) but no other folders and NO PICTURES! But they are there and I can view them on the camera. I appreciate any help someone can give me. Thanks!

Did you try going to START then to my computer? That should pop up a camera symbol and click on that and it should download any pictures you have saved. You have to connect the camera to the computer and have the camera on, also. I hope this helps.

I have a panasonic lumix DMC-FZ20 camera that i installed an 8g memory card but it says memory card error

The DMC-FZ20 works with MMC and SD cards, 2GB or smaller. Your 8GB card is an SDHC card, which fits into the slot but is electronically incompatible.

How big a memory card can you put in a DMC-FZ20 camera? I just got an 8 GB card and get "Memory Card Error" all the time. The old 256 MB card works fine.

An 8GB card is not SD, but SDHC (High Capacity). SDHC cards fit the same slot as SD cards, but they are slightly different and many cameras do not work with them.

I have a DMC-FZ20 myself, and use a 1GB card. That is really plenty of space. If you want more (going on holiday?) then just carry a couple of spares. The manual doesn't mention memory cards larger than 1GB. Probably there weren't any when it was written.

I have a DMC-FZ20 and the tiff pictures are wrong, jpg are fine

It's all to do with SD cards greater than 1GB and the limitations of the camera firmware. For some reason the camera dumps an extra 16KB of junk 16KB into the Tiff which throws everything out.
I have a utility (drop me a line and I'll send it to you) I threw together using some 3rd party tools to fix and affected TIFF files but leave all unaffected ones alone. Just run it in the folder where you store the broken files.

What is the maximum size of sd card that can be used in the lumix fz20 ?

This camera uses the SD standard - not SD HC. The highest capacity mentioned in the manual is 1GB althought the SD stanard supports up to 4GB.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20 SD Card Reading Issue

Plug you camera into USB. Go to My Computer and find a drive device named External Drive or USB Storage etc. Click on this and you should see a folder named DCIM (digital camera EXIF standard Digital Camera IMage folder. This is your cameras memory card.

Click on this and find a subfolder(s) named according to manufacture. For Panasonic it would be 100_PANA or maybe 101_PANA. These are you picture folders. Click on one to find pictures. Drag and Drop folder to computer to download them.

Where does Lumix® digital camera storage path.

Unlike 35mm cameras that store images on film, Lumix® Digital Cameras store images on SD Memory Cards, which make sharing and storing your pictures easy and convenient. You simply insert an SD Memory Card into the camera, take pictures until the card is full, and then you can transfer the pictures onto a compatible PC. Once you saved all your pictures, you can erase the card and start all over again.
