There's a simple fix for this issue, but if the battery has physical or chemical problem, then I can't assure you. Here's the steps and you won't believe it:

1. Turn off laptop. 2. Unplug AC power. 3. Remove battery. 4. Replace AC power. 5. Turn on laptop, allow OS to boot. 6. Once logged in to the machine, perform a normal shut down. 7. Unplug AC power. 8. Replace battery. 9. Replace AC power. 10. Turn on laptop, allow OS to boot. The battery should once again be charging as normal.

I am not very sure why this works, but it does, after doing some research, it seems there's a protocol controlling the transferring of power between the adapter and the battery which enables to connect them when a specific sequence of connection is established. It's only my theory, so don't take it otherwise.

If this doesn't work for you, you can try uninstalling the "Microsoft ACPI Complaint Control Method Battery" from the "Device Manager", under "Battery: category. (be careful with other components, like similar to ACPI or battery related drivers, never touch them,).

You last option is replacing the battery.

Good luck.

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I have acer aspire 5740, purchased 10 months ago from us , what I facing that in a night time my battery completely drained out without any apparent reason b/c in normal working it give me reasonable back...

Are you turning it off at night or just using sleep mode? Turn it off!

Also if you use them on AC power most of the time the batteries tend to hold less and less of a charge as time go's by. You should use them on and off with just battery till it's almost dead, it will hold a better charge then.

My Acer Aspire laptop 7540-1284 was purchased 2 months ago. I want to know how long a full battery charge should last

Depending on what you are doing and the Cell design of the battery, on a new system 2 to 3 hours on a 6 cell battery is fairly standard. Things like the brightness on the LCD, if you are using the DVD drive can also effect the run time of the battery.

Battery will not charge.

Either the battery is bad, or the battery charging circuit in the laptop is bad. To be able to judge, you will need to replace the battery is a one that is known to be working fine & see if it will be charged.
If it charges fine, then your battery needs to be replaced with a new one. If the test battery did not charge as well, then the battery charging circuit in the laptop is defective & needs to be repaired.

BATTERY FAILURE PURCHASED JUNE 2007

Your battery pack has a typical life-span determined more in hours of use than by length of time owned. When they're near the end they won't hold a charge. This happens with cordless phones, cell phones etc. Batteries also come in different sizes (capacity/lifespan). People also use their machines and batteries differently - so it's hard to compare with someone else. When you get a new battery, get a higher capacity and use the power cord to keep the laptop charging as much as possible. - hope this helps :)

Laptop turns off when power cable is taken out even though battery is 100% charged

Hi,
sounds like the system has a problem taking power from the battery, but is able to send power to it for charging purposes, or the battery indicates a ful charge, when in reality it is bad.
If there's a way to borrow a known good battery for testing purposes, you might narrow it down.
I'm sorry, I'd need to see this one to offer any further advice.
Good luck
