i had this exact problem. call AT&T and the lady will tell you to go into settings and click on TTY or connection or one of those catagories and its just something on the phone has been turned off and you have to turn in back on. its really simple i just cant remember what it was she had me click on.

2.) Restore to factory setting

It must be a connection problem, to the LCD, or the light is not working.
Can only be sorted by looking at it really.
Back to Telstra I'm afraid. If it's new let them sort it out, if it's not try a reset take the sim card out first then input this code *#7780# (Best to use this code as a last resort)
Give it time to work.

1. Press and hold down the announce button.
2. You will hear record announcement after the tone.
3. Once you hear record announcement after the tone continue holding the relase button and record your message.
4. When you are done recording release the release button.
5. To hear your recorded message press and hold the release button and release after you have heard your message.
6. If you are not pleased with your recorded message, repeat the steps obove.
