Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel after dropping it. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful.

Regards
Andrea

My fuji a800 says zoom error and the lens is stuck ?

If it was dropped the zoom motor mechanisim is out of alignment and must be brought in to a camera shop for repair, the only thing you can do is change out the battery and cross your fingers that it will start working ok again.

Zoom on fuji f650 stuck

Hi Sandra, Try power reset for your camera. Turn the camera on, and without turning the camera off, open the battery door and take the batteries out. Leave it for a minute or two. This helps camera get reset and helps correct the basic functionality and also zoom error. Hope it helps u otherwise u will have to take it to authorised repair center. Good Luck.

ZOOM ERROR

Had the same problem today with my daughter's Fuji A820 displaying "Zoom Error" at switch on with the lens remaining in the body of the camera and not extending.

I am told this has occured once before while still under warranty and after 2 months at the repair centre.

Before dismantling it I thought I would get a few ideas from this site, and what worked for me was to press the ON button, and at the same time smacking the camera VERY solidly into the palm of my free hand similar to cleaning out a mouth organ. The lens came out immediately and continued to work until I demonstrated to my daughter the corrective action I took ( Gave it another good smacking) where-upon it stopped working again.  Another dose of the same medicine corrected it again,

My daughter indicates she has never dropped the camera but could well have given it a good jolting whilst it was in her handbag which she tends to throw on the front seat of her car when getting into it to drive somewhere. This may be the cause of the malfunction in the first place.

Hope this of some help to anyone grasping at things to try.

Zoom error

worked on allot of fuji's. first detease, a gear is slipping in the lens retract assembly due to a crack or wear or jam

2nd guest .. zoom errors means its really stuck tight

the gears can be ordered and replaced and one more possibility is that the motor that drives the gear is bad
Also if dropped or zoom lens jammed hard... lens assembly needs total realignment or replacing..

ZOOM ERROR

I used to get that error all the time with a earlier Fuji FinePix with the slide-over lens cover. If the cover wasn't pushed back completely, the lens would extend only so far and then give an error. Make sure that there's nothing (dirt, hair) on any of the lens surfaces and make sure the lens is fully extending when you do turn the zoom on. Don't let anything touch or bump the zoom while it's moving, either.
Not sure if this will help, since you have a different model. This is what worked for me, though.

Zoom Error

We had the same problem with a Fuji FinePix s3000 purchased almost three years ago. Its been a terrific camera and has worked perfectly until just last week when it came up with the "Zoom Error!" problem in the view finder. Since then we have not been able to take a single photo. We did not expose it to any extremes of heat or cold and we did not get it wet, so that would not explain the failure. I very carefully took the camera apart with a jewler's screwdriver and found that it is quite complex inside. To get to the zoom mechanism you have to remove 3 layers of circuit boards. Upon inspecting the zoom mechanism and the minature gear box I could find nothing obviously wrong or broken. Incidentally, don't try what some people suggest for other Fuji cameras about manually pulling the zoom out because you'll probably just strip the gear box. The mechanism is driven by a small motor about the size of a thumb-nail. I guess its possible that this had failed, but since I was not sure of the voltage and I didn't want to disconnect it, I didn't test it to see if it worked. I checked to see if there was any sand or grit in the mechanism but it all looked clean. When I put it back together the zoom mechanism extended and stayed there. The screen still showed "Zoom error". The only solution I can see is to buy a new camera of some sort. It seems that many of the Fuji cameras suffer from this zoom error problem so maybe a change of brand is in order. I think Fuji need to redesign their zoom mechanism.
