Question about Emerson Fans Emerson MW8115SS Microwave Oven

Started arcing inside like it was on fire. It started to arc inside and making a loud noise. You could see big flashes coming from inside where the motor is. It did'nt last very long. I wont be buying Emerson again even though I loved it until it quit working.

When the micro starts arcing it is reasonably serious. One or more of the components are broken down. What needs to be done is firstly, "pull the plug out" The cover needs to be unscrewed and removed. You will then see the electrical components on the R.H.Side. There is a magnatron (creates the heat).and a capacitor (discharge voltage) and a HV diode. (DCcurrent to charge the cap). The magnatron needs to be replaced, and the HV diode. Please do not do it yourself as there are lethel voltages sitting there waiting for a wrong move. A technician needs to do the repairs as he has the appropriate tools to discharge the cap and do relative tests.

Loud noise when cooking

I had an arcing sound coming from above the cardboard panel inside the microwave. When I saw it sparking I took the cover off and saw that these two aluminum looking things had come loose. I removed the cover and did a fair bit of 'fine tuning' to get it working again.

Microwace noise coming from top and flashing

dont use the microwave until you retrieve what dropped inside when you removed the port. The grinding is most likely a foreign object that is hitting the moving parts of the microwave and causing sparking. It can catch fire

Not heating making loud noise

Check inside the oven chamber and look for missing powder paint or signs of arcing, if so there is a paint to repair microwaves for this issue or else just dispose of the microwave. If the inside is good remove all the screws and remove the cover. If the magnetron was making louder noises prior then replace the magnetron. the giant capacitor could be bad. While the cabinet is open make sure to look for burned wires, check the continuity of thermal cutoffs, and check the main circuit-board for burned traces or components. The relays in most electronics are known for arcing (spot welding) and staying in the wrong position. Tap them hard with the back end of a screwdriver. During all of this use safe electrical practices by having the power cord unplugged. The capacitor could still have a high charge on it so be careful.

proceed according. God bless youIf you see arcing or sparking inside a microwave, turn unit off immediately. Arcing can be caused by having something metal in the oven cavity touching a side, an oven shelf is touching the side of the cavity, an oven shelf support has broken, microwave waveguide, or bad magnetron.
If your microwave has a shelf in it, and you do not use it, keep it out. If one of the shelf supports breaks or comes out, the microwave will arc where the support was. You will have to sand the spot down, paint with appliance paint and re-install support. If the shelf shifts on the support and touches the side it will arc.
Your magnetron waveguide will either come out of the top, or side of the oven cavity. Some will have a stirrer in it(mostly top waveguides) with a panel over, or just a cardboard type cover over it. Over time, the stirrer cover can become warped from the heat which will expose the stirrer's metal shaft which will then cause sparking. These covers and stirrers come in a kit and can be replaced from inside the oven cavity.
Your cover over a side waveguide is coated with a substance on it, and overtime this coating can come off from the heat and moisture in the microwave. These waveguide covers are very easy to replace from inside the oven cavity. Touch up any paint that may have chipped or come off because of the arcing.
If your waveguide cover and/or stirrer are all OK, then the spark is coming from your magnetron. The antenna on your magnetrom has overheated and burned, sending the microwaves out at the wrong angle. If you catch this microwave oven repair early enough, you can usually get by with just replacing the magnetron. If the arcing has caused servere damage inside the waveguide, you will need a new microwave. Waveguides are not replaceable and most you can barely see into them, let alone sand and re-paint. In this case of microwave oven repair, when you remove the magnetron, you will see the burned antenna, or your magnetron will fail the test below.

Microwave made loud pop when started

It does sound like it may be arcing causing snapping sounds, if bare metal is exposed it will arc and eventually cause the maghetron to fail. It is possible the magnetron is breaking down, but for safety issues it should be checked.

That sound like arcing inside the food cavity. Maybe it needs cleaning? or some contamination is flashing over making the popping noises.

It could be that the "grinding" noise was actually "arcing" taking place inside the cavity or uder the cover. The magnatron is possibly damaged or the h.v. diode. Should be repaired by qualified repairman

Kenmore 721.80524500 makes a buzzing, grinding noise

Your problem is due to the "magnetron" arcing to the wave guide within the microwave. Picture someone arc-welding stuff together inside the microwave casing, that's essentially what's happening. It is a fire hazard and you should stop using the microwave immediately. As far as I know, there isn't a recall on that particular model (though there was on another similar Kenmore/Whirlpool model) so if it's out of warranty, you're out of luck.
