These two tips are found to be very helpful to fix the laptop shutdown problem. Almost all the computer users surf internet which could result in viruses attacking your system. Some of these infections are really pesky and cause the machines to shutdown randomly.
The registry errors, however, are the internal errors and can become a cause of system crashes and freezes. The registry keys shall be in good health to keep a system perfect.

Clean heat sink on toshiba satellite

Turn off the Satellite laptop and flip it over so you can see the bottom. Push the battery latch towards the outside of the laptop and remove the battery.

Locate the heat sink panel, which will be next to, or including, the two fans that you can see. Unscrew the two to three screws that are holding that panel down, and remove them.

A few models of Satellite laptops use Torx sized-8 screws instead of Phillips.

Unplug the cables running from the two fans to the control board.

You can see the cables coming up from under the fans.

Then unscrew the two to three screws on the fans, and pull up to remove the fan unit from the laptop.

If your Satellite heat sink panel does not uncover the fans as well as the heat sink, ignore this step.

Remove the four screws that surround the heat sink.

Then move the heat sink back and forth to disconnect it from the CPU.

If your laptop shuts down by itself without any reason, check the heat sink first.

Overheating is a very common problem among Toshiba laptops.

Lift up on the heat sink to remove it from the unit.

If the CPU got caught on the heat sink and comes off as well, grasp it by the edges and peel it off the heat sink.

Turn the screw on the side of the CPU socket to unlock it, then place the CPU back in its socket and lock it again.

Blow compressed air into the heat sink and the fans until the dust is removed.

Then blow the air onto the control board to remove loose dust from there as well.

Place some Isopropyl alcohol onto your cloth, or a small brush, and clean the processor and the control board area around the processor.

You will also want to wipe up the thermal grease that is on these components. Make a note of the area where you removed the thermal paste.

Reapply a layer of thermal grease in the areas where you removed it.

The lid of the thermal grease container will have an applicator.

Just spread the grease over the components.

Replace the heat sink, then the fans and finally the heat sink panel cover.

hope this helps

Emachines t5212 overheat message then shuts down

Three causes of ovheating:
1) Dust. Dust inside the computer, Dust around the vents, fans, cpu and heat sink. Take a can of compressed air and clean the dust out of the computer.

2) A Fan not working. Make sure the fan inside the Power Supply where you plug the power cord in works. Also there is a fan that sits on top of the CPU and Heat Sink. Make sure it works. Normally the system will give you an error message if the fan is not working.

3) Thermal Paste - The Thermal Paste around the cpu and heat sink has dried up or is too thin to keep the unit cool. Apply a fresh coat of Thermal Paste on the CPU and Heat Sink.

Acer Aspire 4930 heats up very quickly

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

Sony vaio vgn-cr510e overheating and sutting down time to time what seems to be problem

Either the cooling fan is not functioning properly or not functioning at all, or the heat sink's vents are blocked by dust & need to be cleared.
Another possibility could be that the thermal grease applied to the top surface of the CPU and/or the graphics chip has dried out & needs to be cleaned & new fresh thermal grease applied.

My nv7802 overheats and shuts off,fan is running but the heat sink gets very hot

The fan may be running too slow (faulty bearing) or the fan and heat sink assembly may be clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spinsfreely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged withdust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use acan of compressed air to do this.

My hp pavilion zx5000 overheats and shuts down unexpectedly, i am sure of this because i downloaded speedfan and the temp is at least 216 f. i am going to put heat conductivity grease on it.

Try to open the cover of the laptop and clean the vents in the heat sink area and the cpu area. It is very likely those vents have been filled up with dust and down. Remove and clean the heat sink that covers the cpu, also.

Gateway 7405 GX Fully shuts down at random intervals

It sounds like a thermal shut down when the processor over heats, one thing it might be is that the heat sink is not seated properly on the processor. When removing the heat sink make sure you have thermal paste to place between the processor and heat sink. That should give you a good starting point.

Fans run all the time

How many HDDs/internal devices are you running off *********** board? If you have an AMD processor, they tend to run hot too. If your computer is running agonizingly slow or shutting down by itself, I would suggest you do the following:

Take your heat sink off your CPU and clean off the heat sink paste and re-applying. If you haven't done this before, you only need to put it on in a VERY light film so you can partly see through it. Applying too much can cause over heating.
