Question about Mitsubishi VS-5043 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Mitsubishi vs5043 convergence

Hello premte, I have a red convergence issue with my set. The shop quoted me $380 to replace all three, and that was the only way they would fix it. I understand that is what it is, but the set is not worth the $$ to me to fix. In your opinion how difficult is it to repair this with plenty of previous soldering experience and industrial equipment? While I am in, any resistors/capacitors you would recommend replacing? Thanks, Jim

Can't converge red on the edges

Depending on the actual model number the set uses either one or two convergence chips and both would now have to be replaced.

Set as you know has convergence mode in customer menu and another in one of three hidden menus.

We can set the convergences great but after about 10 to 15 minutes ithe reds lines start moving a little again will not stay in position. It's a widescreen Mitsubishi rear projection tv ws-55857.

The problem - you're setting the convergence settings, but you're not saving them, you're
simply exiting the menu screen. Be sure to save your convergence setting for each
of the three colors. It sounds like you're setting RED last, and not saving its convergence setting,
whereas the GREEN & BLUE are holding their convergence settings, since you're saving them
correctly before proceeding on to RED....

It appears to be convergence issues. Red, green,

Projection TV2_bing.gif sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung2_bing.gif, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith2_bing.gif, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D2_bing.gif
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash2_bing.gif focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

Red convergence problem - Mitsubishi 65

It sounds like your red gun might be close to going, we had the same problem our tv. The red was off and couldnt really be adjusted but the others were alright. We were told that the red gun was nearing the end of its life and it could cost upwards of $1000 to fix, so we just got a new tv. i would suggest having a tv tech come out and look just to make sure, but thats wut it sounds like.

YOu have convergence issues. Ok first question. IN your setup menu do you have the convergence option/ if you DO not then it can be a specail fusable link. fl231 if you do. next question do the picture bow in at the middle. if you do then it possibly a convergence power supply issue. next if you go into setup convergence does the crosshairs adjust up or down left to right on both blue and red. I if so then theres is a chance that it can be a convergence adjusment or a amplifer problem AS always THIS SET CAN GENERATE LEATHAL 380 VOLTS EVEN WITH SET UPLUGED SO BE CAREFULL.

Mitsubishi vs 5071

Usually this problem is caused by bad convergence ic's. These hold the three colors in alignment. They are better to be replaced as a set of two or three chips and must be soldered/desoldered into the circuit board. Most shops charge 200.00-375.00 to do this repair. I hope this helps. Most bow problems are from convergence or pincushion circuits.
