Call whirlpool even if the unit is not under warranty, they can walk you through a simple list of items to check and supply new parts free. If they will not help you, ask for a new whirlpool thermocouple( whirlpool thermocouples have a unique thread). If after changing the thermocouple you still have the same problem, you will need to replace the gas control valve or just replace the tank if it is over 6 years old.

I have brand new Whirlpool gas water heater and forgot to put on air filter. Have tried to light the pilot light and it will not stay lit. Can you tell me if the air filter could cause this

Not unless the system has a fault switch whereby the switch requires a filter to activate the heater. Generally Not.
As a rule, your GAS company will come to your residence FREE of charge to check the heater and start it for you.

Water heater not working. Light is off o electronic board but has 220 power going to it.

Still I would check the power cord, the connector and the switch. Then I would check fuses and in the heater if the overheating security did not trip.

Water heater fails to turn on. the light single flashes once every other second i just replaced the elements after the water heater had sat for months without working what can i do?

If you have the manual for it you can find out what the flashing code means, in your case it's one flash. If you know the brand of the heater then you can look them up on the internet and find the 800 number to call for troubleshooting.

Pilot l.ight will not stay lit

The pilot light jet may have got a little bit of dirt or grit in it which is preventing it from keeping alight. Try probing the jet with a fine piece of wire to see it the blockage can be dislodged. You may have to unscrew the jet to clear it by blowing air through it. Make sure gas is turned off first before removing any parts.

The pilot light also has a thermocouple that allows gas to the pilot light while the flame is burning. If flame goes out it shuts gas off to the pilot jet. The thermocouple is bypassed by a switch during the initial ignition and once the thermocouple warms up after a minute or two of holding in the bypass switch, it should maintain the pilot. If, after cleaning, the pilot light keeps going out, it would seem that your thermocouple is faulty and needs to be replaced

I have a Atwood 10 gallon electric/ propane water heater on the Hornet travel trailer I purchased used. There are two switches on the wall, one is an on/off switch that lights up and the oither is just an...

The two switches control the water heater either in the gas or electric mode. The switch with the lights would be for the gas operation, and the switch without lights would be for the electric mode. Prior to operating either switch, make sure the water tank is full of water. Turn your hot water tap on, if water comes out, tank is full. Connect trailer to 110 Volt source, turn circuit breakers on, Place switch without lights to on position. If water does not heat in 45 minutes, Install new heat proble. The gas mode should be repaired by someone that is familiar with that system. Atwood can provide you with a local service center.

How to install a new temp sensor Whirlpool electric water heater

The instructions for installing the sensor will probably included with the new part. Also, when you receive the part and actually see it, you will probably know where it will go. Sometimes, things like this happen even with new units. I have had bad thermocouples on brand new units right from the factory. It happens and unfortunately it happens to us sometimes. Good luck and if you get the part and still have trouble, contact them again. If you would have bought a GE (Rheem) unit, they would have sent a tech out to your house at no cost. I'm not a fan of Whirlpool water heaters.

Whirlpool water heater pilot light does not stay lite

I have a Lowe's Whirlpool water heater. I've experienced the same problems as I've seen described here. My pilot light started going out several times a day. It was not such a big deal, the tank is well insulated so the water would stay warm - I'd just re-light the pilot before going to bed and before going to work. That worked well for about three days, but the problem got progressively worse until it just would not light at all. I replaced the thermocouple with a Honeywell universal thermocouple that I got at Home Depot - that did not solve the problem. I'm very handy, so I decided instead of going through warranty service and having to wait three or four days for replacement parts, I'd buy a new gas valve at Lowes and try that. It cost $54.00 and it worked. By the way, I put the original thermocouple back in and the pilot light stays lit - it was definitely the gas valve and not the thermocouple in my case. It was a real pain to do since I had to drain the tank, but it only took about three hours total. From what I've read, these things last anywhere between six months and two years. That's ridiculous, but at least I have hot water now. If you are reading this because you are considering purchasing a Lowes hot water heater, DON'T!!! I started my search for a replacement gas valve at Home Depot, but they don't stock them. Lowes had 8 on the shelf. That tells you something right there - the water heaters Home Depot stocks don't need to have the gas valves replaced before the tank wears out - there's no demand for the valves so Home Depot doesn't stock them. Lowes probably sells 8 of them a week - all the boxes were shiny and new, not dirty and dusty like some items get when they sit around in home improvement stores.
