Hi,
This error indicate that focusing ring got stuck or jammed. What you can try to do is spray some compressed air into the lens to try to free up any sand or dust that may have worked its way in. If that doesn't help, you can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.
or.......
You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening.
Avoid applying pressure to the lens and surrounding area:
1) Do not touch Lens while shooting. 2) Make sure the camera is off before the camera is placed back in the case.
If you cannot clear the error code by turning the camera OFF and then on again then your device need to be repaired.

Rating the solution is highly appriciated...Good Luck.

How do i restart my canon powershot a3100 is camera if it wont turn on?

Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct your problem. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:
And here's a video summary of the steps:

OKAY . well . I have a Canon PowerShot SD1000 digital elph . whenever I turn it on it kinda freezes and says "Lens error, restart camera." my camera's like my life . help :(

Possible error or fault in the auto focus mechanism or the main board. Remove off the memory card and the battery for some 30 mintues so as to reset.
Put back only the battery into the camera and check if the fault clears. If not remove and while inserting and powerring tap gently on the lens hood to set off a jammed lens drive.
If none off these work I advice the job to the Canon service than to tamper on.

Lens Error

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

Canon Powershot a610 dropped, lens stuck half way, won't move, gives E18 whenever one puts it in the mode to take a picture, no view through lens. Is the camera toast?

Hello there,
The E18 error is related to the LENS not able to retract fully. If it is still under warranty, I would advise you bring it to the nearest service center. This is to avoid further damages. Otherwise, you can try a few things below.
There are a couple of things you can do.
1. Turn it on and then off. Spray canned air around the lens.
If trick 1 will not work out, try this.
2. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Turn on the camera and then give it a couple of firm whacks on the side. Make sure nothing is blocking the lens and wait for it to fully retract.
Let me know how it goes.

Check your owner / user manual. I had similar problem and it was caused by "Mode" and "Flash" settings.

"lens error, restart camera"

I was facing the same issue and its working now after following
these steps:

Go to this site http://homepage.mac.com/jpelling/page0/page0.html it will tell you how to take apart your camera and clean out the gear that controls the lens. The instructions are for a different model but it works for the A460 as well. You will have one extra screw to remove on the bottom. Once the gear is free of grit, reassemble the camera and plug the av cable in. This will allow your camera to "reset" the lens by powering on without attempting to focus the lens.
Try this it will resolve the issue....

Lens Error

Unfortunately this Canon SX100 (and the SX110 too) has a very fragile lens assembly. Once you have this lens error problem, there are only four solutions: 1) If it's under warranty, contact Canon to make it valid; 2) If not, then have a repair center to replace the lens assembly (either the internal lens motor or the gears are damaged) or, 3) Sell it for parts or 4) send it to the trash can.

The following blog outlines some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:
