My 91 with the 3.0 liter V6 has a belt squeal when first started. It does it worse when the engine is hot. The squeal wiil stop if I rev the engine, but it does it every time I start it now. I've been told its the water pump bearing, the alternater, the power steering, and the fan clutch. How do I determine which it is?

Remove the alternator, power steering and fan belts as they will no effect you car when engine is just running, the water pump runs of the timing belt, if it still squeals it you water pump.

How do you stop a belt from squealing when you crank the engine? It has a new belt less than 50k and self-adjusting tensioner. I was told not to spray anything on it...

50k isn't new but also isn't that high a milage , how old is the belt ,as age as well as mileage are the factors when replacing belts , chalk dust or french chalk , which are the same thing , thrown onto the belt just as starting should stop the squeal , the squeal is caused by the inner side of belt that runs around the pulleys becomes shiney and cant grip as well as it used to

When I start my 2004 suzuki forenza sometimes there is a loud squealing noise that will stop if I rev the engine. It doesn't sound like a belt to me sounds more mechanical. It also sometimes makes the...

Squealing noises are more apt to be from belts, not mechanical parts. It doesn't necessarily have to be "a belt" per se, as the noise could, in part, be caused by an idler pulley. Open the hood and try to locate the sound. FYI I have posted the complete 2004 Forenza Service manual on FIXYA. Do a site search with those key words.

04 toyota tacoma squeals on left side of engine compartment during acceleration only, what is causing this noise???.

Could be your belt is stretched and needs to be replaced, can't tighten cause it's done by tensioner. Here's a link to the belt replacement guide. To check out noise, open hood, stand at engine, have someone start, listen for noise, have person rev up engine and you find where noise is coming from. Also check tensioner.

1998 Ford F150 5.4 liter V8 squealing problem. Ok, I have this loud squeal that sounds like a pulley or belt. It is getting worse by the week. At first, I would spray some WD40 on the pulleys and it would...

I don't think its the CPS, but I do know that WD40 will make a squealing belt even worse. If you havnt replaced the belt yet, I would do that.

Let us know if that helps.

Squeals when starting up

The squealing could be a belt slipping - the alternator would be working hard to charge the battery after being parked.
The lack of power could be a different issue. A 1992 model should not have a choke - it should be fuel injected.

Steering belt squeals on tick over new idler and pump has been fitted stops when engine revs picked up

If the pump is stopping and belt squeals, the belt is too loose. You either have the wrong belt or it's not tensioned properly. Does that car have a automatic tensioner on that belt? Sometimes those tensioner sieze and don't do the job anymore.

On a 2003 mitsubishi montero sport w/ 3.0 v6 a/c belt squeals

Your belt is loose (and it just needs tightening) or it is worn and needs to be replaced. It may look ok but they glaze over; all the little ridges get shinny and slip.
