Why do clothes take a long time to dry even if dryer is heating?

One basic reason is your washer could NOT be spinning most of the water out, therefore your clothes are wetter than they should be, thus taking longer to dry:-)

How can I reduce the humidity of the air expelled from the dryer?

If the aire being expelled is humid then this suggests that the unit if working fine. if clothes are still damp then maybe give them a second spin before putting in the drier, or dry them for longer. Also try putting less in the drier and drying in two loads.

Drier dries too slowly. it does heat up but i always have to turn on again for 40 more minutes to complete drying. it does get hot. and i am not overloading.

You do not state if you are using a machine with an automatic drying sensor. If so the calibration of the sensor is off. Try setting the control to a dryer setting. If you are using it by time only, it would appear there may be a blockage in the air outlet. Check the damper flapper at the output of the air vent. It might be partially stuck closed thus reducing the air flow around the clothes. Just a thought that your washer spin dry may not be sufficiently spin drying the clothes and so that the clothes are overly wet when put into the dryer..

I have an indesit widxl146 washer drier and the machine takes an age to dry clothes, 9 hours as oppose to 2 hours when new

9 Hours!!! I hope it isn't because the clothes are too wet because if it is I wouldn't like your electricity bill!!
There are a number of things you need to check.
I assume that you are not overloading the machine, and that you are using the correct spin cycle
Don't start the drying cycle directly after the wash, take out the clothes and see how dry they are after the wash, you need to ascertain if it is spinning the load sufficiently fast to dry them. How dry are they directly after the spin? If they are not wetter than they should be then the dryer is not getting hot enough during the drying cycle, this could be due to a faulty thermostat or element.
Make sure all the filters are clean including the pre chamber down below so that it can pump out the water (I guess it must be clear if it is washing ok? but check anyway.
The principal parts involved, assuming that
Also check that you haven't got a delay set for the dryer (unlikely I know but I thought I would mention it anyway)
I hope that helps.

My dryer heats but takes two cycles to dry clothes.

Check the hose in the back and vent to make sure it is breathing properly first. Most driers have a thermistor moisture sensor. Try replacing it first. It nether of these works your heat strip may be shorted so only heating partially. Most driers have two or three thermostats also. Two on the heater cover. One is the high temp and one is the low temp. Usually the high heat will be the problem (cuts out to early before the heat strip fully heats). Others have a third one on the exhaust blower. Check these at room temprature with an ohm meter. They should have continuity. If not replace. Thermostats that are open with no continuity will usually cause the heater not to heat at all. Thermostats can get old and stop working at their intended temp. Replace one at a time

My dryer only blowing cold airwhats wrong

the heating elements that dry the clothes is more than likely burnt out. If the drier turns on and the clothes tumble then the element is the only other possible reason for the drier not to heat up. This element is in the bottom of the drier and can be accessed through the removal of the back panel. It will more than likely be in a square metal box. It isn't hard to replace as you will see but you will need to take the model and serial #'s to an appliance parts house for the proper replacement part.

Good luck hope this helped

Broken washer/dryer

This sounds like a motor control board is faulty. Please load a couple of towels in the machine run it. Watch the machine as it goes through its' cycles.

1. Do the towels tumble when the machine is washing ?
2. When it begins to spin, does it spin one way at a fast pace or does it spin one way and then the other ?

Answering these two questions will help in troubleshooting your problem.
