Question about Toshiba RD-KX50 DVD Recorder/HDD Recorder

Toshiba RD-KX50 HDMI freezes the recorder.

I just purchased the Mitsubishi lt-52144 LCD television. This is the first time i am connecting my Toshiba RD-KX50 via HDMI. When i connect the recorder to the television the recorder freezes, and I am unable to do anything on the recorder. I have to unplug the recorder to turn it off because it is frozen.

i have tried the HDMI cable that came with the recorder and even bought a new one, but no luck.

Is the recorder compatible with the Mitsubishi television?

I have a Panasonic Plasma HDTV. When I try to connect the DVR to the TV using the HDMI cable the DVR freezes up. I am unable to do anything to the DVR until it is unplugged and powered up again.

Same problem with a Panasonic TC37LZ800. Talked to Toshiba Customer Support. They are sending me disc containing a firmware upgrade. Hope it does the trick.

Can I use a HD receiver as input for the Toshiba XS35? Will it record HD signals? Will it record anything if the receiver is HD? I want upgrade my exisitng Bell Canada TV receiver box to HD - can I...

Yes you can record any TV show HD or SD, however it depends on what connections you use and what the recorder does with the input signals. You can record HD shows but not in HD resolution if you connect using composite video (yellow RCA cable) you just get a down-converted resolution, probably 480. You must use a HDMI or a component video connection for HD BUT if the recorder cannot record HD video, it should just record it in SD resolution but it should record the input signal. DVD is not HD, you would have to go to Blu-ray for HD and there are not many Blu-ray recorders around. The hard drive has the potential to record in HD but the recorder would have to process HD signals and you would have to connect with HDMI or component video. I would say your Toshiba will record an HD show but in SD resolution. I don't think the recorder has an HDMI input or a component video input. Just composite and S-video inputs. To actually record in HD you should look at another recorder.

A/V Signal Outout through Onkyo TX-SR705

Are you trying to record cable programming with your DVD recorder? If so, you might want to try using component cable as HDMI does have a copy protection circuit that might be preventing your recorder from receiving the image. Just try to connect the cable box component (RED/GREEN/BLUE) cable to your DVD recorder. If that doesn't work, then try to change everything over to component cables. HDMI is a great cable to use but it the only required to display 1080p images and the only current source that uses 1080p is a bluray player. Everything else, such as your cable box and DVD recorder is 1080i and component cables are perfect for it.

Hi, I have a toshiba RD-XS52 that requires a firmware update before HDMI will work with newer model TV. Have tried to download and run update link provided by tosiba with 10 pouched discs. Any thoughts?

I tried the firmware found on Toshiba Canada website, it doesn't work. I believe the US version of RD-XS52 firmware is not upgradeable. The site said the firmware is for RD-XS52SC. You guys got it to work?

Toshiba DVD recorder problem

Generally, this problem is caused by bad sectors or other problems on the hard drive and can be resolved by going into the setup menu and re-formatting the hard drive. Of course, all recordings on the hard drive will be erased, so spin them off to dvd first. Be sure to have unplugged and replugged the unit immediately prior to going into the setup menu (don't try to record anything). If this doesn't work, no-one will repair this unit locally, as it must be returned to Toshiba's(TACP) depot for repair. Best of luck.
