Hi,
Yes, just watch that you don't let the grease build up so much again, but yeah fires are a normal thing,,, good to keep a spray bottle handy to douse the flames right a way when they start...

When i start my kenmore outside gas grill i turn on the gas and then the knobs and then push the red button. Then there is this big bang and flames come pouring out. of cause the lid is open. grill also...

This will sound crazy but, when the grill and gas is off have you looked underneath to make sure the gas valves are aligned to the burners? moving a grill around can dislodge the burners then the gas will not eneter the burner or the burn box as designed. think putting a bic pen back in it's cap. this is the relationship of the back of the valve to the burner

If these are aligned....
at the point where the valve meets the burner there is an opening, a venturi if you will. Bugs love these holes. spiders make nests in them, wasps and hornest make nest in them, you name it. if it is blocked with a nest the gas flows backwards and you have fire where you don't want fire. start there. Most Grills are made to easily remove the burners once the grates are off or if you look up from the ground level you can see in there (this is the path air takes to feed air to the burners. last if you have a cabinet you may need to open the doors and look up that way.
Good luck happy grilling and be safe

Had a fire in the control panel along the front where the knobs melted off. BBQ is a Grill Chef approx 4 yrs old. Took control panel off and cleaned it up. Would it be safe to continue to use or would...

Yes, there could be unseen damage to the gas manifold, that the control knobs attach too. To check this, you will need to remove the control panel cover. Turn the gas ON and paint soapy water on all the fittings. Do this with the control knobs in the OFF position. If you see any bubbles that get larger in size, that's where the leak is. Then turn each control knob one at a time and check for leaks again. DO NOT Smoke or have any open flame close by, when you do this.

Just for my own information, how did the control panel area catch fire? Was there an existing gas leak?

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

I bought the Ducane Affinity 3100 from Ace Hardware in 2009. The paint on the inside of the grill lid has started to bubble, peel and fall off. Is this covered by the manufactory warranty. Is it still safe...

According to the Owners Manual for your and the reading of the Warranty, No the paint flaking under the grill hood is not covered under warranty (see link below). As far as safety of using it is concerned ... only if you clean all the flaking paint and any residue, and repaint it with High Heat Grill Paint. This should only be applied after all greasy residue has been removed and only in light coats. Several light coats, in fact. It should be allowed to thoroughly dry between each coat, before applying the next coat. Once the final coat is applied, wait at least five days before using the grill. Be sure no paint gets down of the cooking grates or the burners. You can get the High Heat Grill Paint , form the same Ace Hardware store you bought the grill from. I believe Ace carries Krylon, which is one of the best High Heat Paints.

I have a sharp household microwave oven model R410LK - I am not sure if it is safe as I have paint chips coming off the interior roof and floor of this microwave. The floor now has a black ring on it...

The rusted areas will first have to be sanded smooth and cleaned and dried thoroughly.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

Then be sure to promptly clean up any spills or steam after using the oven.

Gas grill overheated

I might have an Idea to what happened. All grills have a drip pan, most all new grills have a drain for grease that falls from our savory meats. Well, if, (not saying that you haven't) but if, you have not cleaned the drip pan, there is still grease left over that gets absorbed by food droppings. IF this is the case, you had a ticking time bomb of a grease fire. The grill did not overheat, the grease caught fire. You said your grill was a year old; so the regulator did not go full blast and when they do go bad they do not let gas pass through.

Not trying to preach to no one because I have done it myself, never leave your gas grill on and unattended. I hate to say it but even the owners manual says it.

I hope I did not come off the wrong way and I hope this might give you an idea/thought of what happened.

Venturi tubes

The venturi tubes should go over the gas orifice. If the tubes were to drop off, you could have a fire outside of your grill and possibly an explosion.

Shelf support burned off

The shelf supports will need to be replaced. It's best to replace them all. You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 Before you install the new supports, you should clean the cavity squeaky clean in those areas where they mount. If any paint is chipped or charred, it should be sanded bare, then fresh high-temperature appliance paint should be added. That can be had from home improvement stores, or Wal-Mart, etc.
