My maytag mtw5600tq1 washer won't hold water. Its

Hi,
Its sounds like you have a siphon going on, this happens when the drain hose it too low during fill and as the water enters the unit it exits through the drain hose. To stop this the drain hose needs to be higher than the tub itself, meaning: raise the drain hose behind the washer to about control panel area. This will or should stop the siphon effect and allow the water to remain in the tub. If the drain hose is low this siphon will start again.
I hope this helps

Won't hold water. is draining during the waterfill cycle.

Hi Lisa,

Here`s what I find is most common when dealing with the symptom you`ve described.

I'd suspect the drain hose is lying down on the floor or is pushed down into the stand-pipe too far. If the drain hose is below the water level entering the washer it will siphon out immediately. The drain hose must be above the highest point the washer has to fill, ( refer to your manual, but it is typically recommended to be about "48 to "60 in height...or potentially more if the washer is on a pedestal or some riser/platform ) and if it is in a stand pipe insure it isn't pushed in too far, just a few inches and then secure it without completely covering over the opening or that too will cause it to siphon.

Do you hear any motor operating while this is happening ? If you answered NO, this further support's the idea of the washer siphoning out the water it is supposed to fill with. When you start a cycle and the unit begins to fill, stop the washer and inspect if water is coming out the drain hose without the motor/pump being "on".

Check your drain hose. Let me know if this was indeed the case and if so please rate the solution accordingly.

Thank's for coming to "fixya" and good luck.

Water won't fill

it's syphoning caused by the drain hose in the stand pipe (wall) too far.
pull the drain hose out and stick in 6 inches only and secure to one of the fill hoses so it does not go back down too far. This will solve your problem

Roper washer leaks when filling

It's in the drain hose somewhere, during the fill the water gets as deep in the drain hose as it does in the washer, during the wash the pump runs in reverse keeping the water level in the hose low, during the drain the hose is filled again.
Prop the washer up in front on a couple bricks or boards, start putting in water until it starts to leak and take a peak under the machine.

Water runs into tub but does not fill?

be sure the drain hose is not lower than the wash tub this will caust the water to run out, 2nd be sure the drain hose is not pushed to far into the house stand pipe and the there is rome for air to go inbetween the drain hose and stand pipe eather of these will cause the machine to siphon mostly on rince cycle or on the 2nd and third loads you do. last your house drain could be starting to back up fill the washer with water and listen to it drain if you hear a gurggling sound in the house pipe you may need a plumber to cleanthis out for you.

Will not hold water during initial cycle

The drain hose needs to be lifted above the high fill level in washer. The easiest way to fix this is take the drain hose (if your drain hose starts from the bottom of machine and goes up)tie or strap it to the back of the washer so it cant sag or drop down and start syphoning the water.Remember the washer will drain out the water if the drain hose is lower than the amount of water in the tub.Thats why your making sure by tieing the drain hose to the highest point before it makes it way to the drain .

Washer is not filling during rinse cycle.

Sounds like the water is being siphoned out by the drain hose. Check to see if the drain hose rises above the top of the tub.

Washer fills then drains

Daisy, check your drain hose going into the drain. It sounds like you have a siphoning problem. If the drain hose does not have a air gap the water filling will siphon right out. Check this first and post back, Catriver.
