Vertical line down screen

This problem can be caused by a lose connection between LCD and motherboard, however you can check it by opening the LCD or hinge bezel to ensure if there isn't any lose connection.

Vertical strip of flashing horizontal lines on Acer Aspire 7551G screen

More than likely it's the lcd screen and will have to be replaced. I could be the video card, but most likely the lcd screen especially when you can put pressure on the screen and cause changes. To isolate the problem try connecting another monitor to the computer. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the laptop. If the Borrowed monitor displays ok, then the problem is with your lcd screen and the video card is ok. If the Borrowed monitor displays the same as your lcd screen then the problem is with your video card inside the computer.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves your video card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

Once you narrow it down to the lcd screen as being the problem you might try taking the lcd screen apart to reseat the lcd cable on the back at the top of the lcd. Just unplug it and plug it back into the connector. You can also try doing the same where the lcd cable plugs into the motherboard. Just pull it out and put it back.

A green line just appeared on screen. how do I get rid of it.

Sad to say, you're stuck with the line. Solid color lines that go vertically or horizontally across the display are because of driver circuit failure in the display panel itself. There's a lot of electronics built into the display to control the individual pixels that make up the display. Sometimes those parts go bad and light up a whole row or column all the time. There isn't any way to get into those parts to repair them; the only way to fix the trouble is by replacing the display.

You can continue to use the laptop and just get used to the line. Using the computer this way won't hurt anything or cause further damage, but it's annoying. Or you can consider replacing the display. It's not difficult to do, and the cost for many displays is reasonable. Many sites show the process for specific brands and models of laptops, and eBay is a good place to look for replacement displays. And of course, you could use this as an excuse to replace the computer if you've been wanting a new one.

Thanks for using Fixya!

My laptop has lines on the screen when turned on

It is required to check whether it is a Hardware issue or issue related with any Software. For this, loginto BIOS by continuously tapping the F2 key on the startup, if you can view vertical lines in the BIOS, it will be a Hardware issue related to the LCD monitor, and it is required to service the Computer in any service center. If the vertical lines disappear in the BIOS mode, the issue is with any of the Softwares or drivers installed in the Computer.

Resolution steps:
1. Check whether the installed video driver is compatible with the Computer. you can download Original shipped Video driver from the link below.

Original NVIDIA Display Drivers. Updated NVIDIA Display Driver

2. You can also try updating the BIOS version by downloading and installing the BIOS updater.

Please try the steps in the same order as it is provided. All the best.

Asus 1000he red vertical line in monitor will not

Hi

If you have External Monitor check by connecting it
if you get display on external monitor without line it means Display screen is Bad, if Line appears on external display as well then there is either Display driver issue or motherboard problem.

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

Try connecting an external monitor to the Dell Inspiron 9300 and see if the vertical line is also present on the monitor. If the monitor display is fine, then your laptop’s LCD display panel is defective. If the monitor also displays the vertical line, then your problem is with either the video card or motherboard located inside your laptop.
Not sure if the Compaq Presario has an external monitor plug, but if it does the above procedure can be applied to that one as well.

Display is not readable

I am not sure what brand of laptop you have. In any case. Do the following 1. Turn the laptop off 2. Turn the laptop back on while tapping on the F8 key. 3. Choose the option to go to safe mode 4. In safe mode right click on my computer, then left click on properties, then click on hardware tab(Windows XP) 5. Click device manager button 6. Scroll to your video adapter and uninstall the drivers 7. Do the same for items on monitors 8. Reboot the computer and let the computer detect the devices again. 9. You may need the drivers cd that shipped with the laptop ( and sometimes the laptop loads the drivers from a default location on the hdd.) This should resolve the problem.
