Sounds like you will need to clean the carburetor or replace your carburetor internal rubber parts like the diaphgram and O rings.
Be sure to use compressed air to blow out all the fuel and air passages.
Be careful when blowing out the passages, because there are sometimes small rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor or using starting fluid and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
Keep in mind that the float for the carburetor must be level when you go to reassemble the carburetor or follow the instrucitons you get with the carburetor kit.
If the mower/weedeater is over a year old, then I also recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit,because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, you will first need to seat the jet screws.
But before you seat the jet screws count the number of turns it takes to seat the jet screws from their original position.
Be sure to mark the turns down on a piece of paper.
That way when you put the jets back in, you know to seat them first and then turn them back out to their orginal position before you started.

not important, what's important is that they are absolutely clean, including the four brass high speed jets located in the bottom center portion of the carburetor.

That model engine's carburetors has fixed jets, BUT if the slow speed jets are adjustable, earlier model carburetors have been installed. If so...................

The four adjustable needle valves control the flow of fuel in relation to the set air flow, adjusted as follows (if needed).

The adjustment procedure of the carburetor slow speed needle valves follows. NOTE... if the needle valves turn too freely, replace the nylon bearing retainer (the nylon item at the front of the carb that the needle valve goes through first) with the newer type RED retainer #315232. If your engine has that weird linkage that connects all four of those needle valves, the newer RED retainers will enable you to discard that linkage. The RED retainers make it impossible for the needle valves to vibrate out of adjustment.

Initial setting is: All (4) Slow speed valves = seat gently, then open 1-1/2 turns.

Facing the carburetors, start with the top left needle valve, then the top right valve, then the bottom let valve, then the bottom right valve. It may be necessary to redo these steps to get the adjustments ideally set

Start engine and set the rpms to where it just stays running. In segments of 1/8 turns, start to turn the S/S needle valve in. Wait a few seconds for the engine to respond. As you turn the valve in, the rpms will increase. Lower the rpms again to where the engine will just stay running.

Eventually you'll hit the point where the engine wants to die out or it will spit back (sounds like a mild backfire). At that point, back out the valve 1/4 turn. Within that 1/4 turn, you'll find the smoothest slow speed setting.

Do not attempt to gradually adjust all four of the valves at the same time. Do one at a time until you hit the above response (die out or spit back), then go on to the next valve.

When you have finished the above adjustment, you will have no reason to move them again unless the carburetor fouls/gums up from sitting, in which case you would be required to remove, clean, and rebuild the carburetor anyway.

Perhaps you haven't adjusted the carburetor correctly.The fuel supply orifice could be still plugged . Recheck the carb.

Chokes and Dies when cutting


Adjust the choke or carburetor. In case your chainsaw stalls when the engine is idling, ensure that the choke is set properly. To do so, first try releasing it to adjust it, and then move the plate and tighten all screws once again. To loosen any grit, spray carburetor cleaner spray on the choke's shaft. The carburetor may also need to be adjusted; consult your owner's manual which will guide you on resetting the idle mix screw.

My chainsaw starts with choke when choke is off and i press trigger it just dies like its getting no fuel


Check the fuel filter, muffler, and air cleaner for plugging. Check the condition of the fuel lines for hardness, splitting, end rot, or kinking. Make sure the carburetor fasteners are tight. If no help, remove the lower carburetor chamber cover and examine the diaphragm and fuel metering valve that it controls. The diaphragm should not be hard, cracked or have any holes. The fuel valve has a rubber tip that may have deteriorated. If looks ok, then turn both L and H jet needles CW to stops (lightly), then back out CCW 1-1/2 turns each. Engine should start and run with these basic settings. Allow the engine to warm up, then pull the throttle full on. Adjust H needle CW until the engine speeds up somewhat, but is 4-stroking. Correct adjustment is when the engine continues to 4-stroke, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. Allow to idle, and adjust L CW until the engine runs fairly well, but will allow the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Set idle speed screw so that the chain stops moving, but the engine continues to run. Hope this helps!

If the carburetor jets have been adjusted, try turning both CW to stops (lightly) then back out each CCW 1-1/2 turns. Engine should start and run--allow to warm up. Pull the throttle full on, and adjust H needle CW until the engine starts to speed up, but still 4-strokes. Proper adjustment is when the engine 4-strokes, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. Let idle and adjust L CW for fairly smooth running, but still allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Hope this helps!

Husqvana 65 chain saw will rev fully when idle but dies when introduced to timber


Sounds like the saw is running lean. Check the fuel filter, air cleaner and muffler for plugging. Check the condition of the fuel lines and that the fasteners on the carburetor are tight. If all ok, turn the 'L' and 'H' jet needles on the carburetor CW to stops (lightly), then back out each 1-1/2 turns CCW. This is a basic setting and the engine should start and run. Allow the engine to warm up, pull the throttle full on, and adjust H CW until the engine starts to speed up, but continues to 4-stroke. Proper adjustment is when the engine 4-strokes, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. This produces the most power and least heat. Allow to idle and adjust L CW until the engine runs fairly well, yet will allow it to 'follow the throttle'. Set the idle speed screw til the chain stops moving, but keeps the engine running. Saw starts then dies. Changed fuel ine soaked carb


Check the fuel filter, air cleaner and muffler for plugging. Was the carburetor disassembled when soaked and did you use compressed air to blow out all passages? If the carburetor jet screws have been moved, preset them as follows: Turn both H and L screws CW to stops (lightly), then back out CCW each screw 1-1/2 turns. Start the engine and allow to warm up. Pull the throttle full on and adjust H CW until the engine speeds up somewhat but 4-stroking. Proper adjustment is when the engine 4-strokes, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. Allow to idle and adjust L CW until the engine runs fairly well, but still allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Adjust idle speed screw so that chain stops turning, but the engine continues to run. Hope this helps!

I can't get the idel set on the McCulloch Mac130 chain saw. It runs wide open. When you try to idle it dies out.


Try turning the L needle CW to stop (lightly), then back out CCW 1-3/4 turns. Turn the idle speed screw CW about 1 turn. Start the engine and let warm up. Set the idle speed screw so that the engine keeps running but doesn't pull the chain. Turn the L needle CW until the engine runs fairly smoothly, yet allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Make sure the H needle is adjusted at full speed for 4-stroking, but immediately 2-strokes when starting to cut wood. If the above idle mix (L) adjustment doesn't help, you will likely need to clean the idle jets within the carburetor. Hope this helps!
