Question about Audio & Video Receivers

1 Answer

Hitachi digital LCD TV bought in Jan 08. Picture begins to sparkle in places then lines form across picture, it then distorts and gradually disappears from the bottom of the screen upwards. Recovers after about 2-3 mins. Happens every 1/2 hour or so when TV turned on.

Picture problem on Panasonic Plasma tv

It looks like you are saying standard definition pictures do not cover the screen like HD pictures do. Standard def is formatted 4:3 and high def is 16:9. They are not the same so your high def screen is made to display the not as tall but wider high def picture. In order to fill the screen with the taller and not as wide 4:3 aspect ratio std def picture you must tell the TV to stretch the picture or otherwise fill the screen. The TV will have controls you can exercise for this purpose and you can set it up to always show std def in a particular manner. The alternative, if you want the standard Def picture to look true to form, is to view standard def in Letter Box form. It's appearance will then include black panels on the sides of the picture. So the problem is not with the TV but in accepting older format pictures playing on newer format displays (TVs.)

What is diferent betwin 1920*1080p and 1920*1080I

Television pictures are a series of still pictures that are presented quickly to give the illusion of continuous movement.
1080p and 1080i indicate how these pictures are formed.
1080p is progressive scan. It is a format that "paints" the picture left to right, top to bottom. On older tube type screens, this would cause the top of the picture to be dimmer than the bottom, as the phosphers would fade before the next picture was painted.
1080i is interlaced scan. This format paints every other line from top to bottom, and then paints the lines it missed before moving to the next picture. This evens out the brightness.
If your TV is capable of 1080p, it is considered to be the best picture (but you probably won't see the difference).

I must often turn home theater system off and back on to get sound synched up with picture. Mouth not moving in snych with dialogue. Please advise. bob

It's the nature of the beast. The TV has to process the digital video bitstream more than the receiver has to process the audio so the result can be a gradual lagging of the video behind the sound...

Some receivers have a sound delay control which you can use to try to sync them up. You didn't name yours so one does not know. Look in the manual.

You must connect from the Bluray both HDMI and SPDIF to the receiver, and turn TV volume down. TV does not send the sound
from HDMI inputs out digitally, only sound from TV channels.

Getting picture lines across tv that keep scrolling down like old tv's used to do. HDMI connected to cable box. Cable box to tv works fine and dvd to receiver hdmi to tv works fine no picture problems. can...

You will need to run HDMI directly from TV to Cable Box. Then run an optical or digital coaxial from your cable box to your receiver. The version of HDMI in your receiver is 1.1 or 1.2 and will not pass signal correctly. The recording industry has placed many roadblocks in front of HDMI to keep us from recording.... Go figure... That's the fix though. Hope this helps
