Hi,

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then…

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Miele Fridge Freezer not getting cold

Power off and remove all fluff under the fridge.
Compressor can be hot but not too hot. Are the settings ok for desired level cold. Is the fridge too heavily loaded? Try now.

GE rotisserie convection oven Model 898691 very hot

I've got one of these and it says engraved right on the outside of the oven "Hot surface - do not touch" so I'd think that would be expected.

I want to defrost my GE chest freezer but i do not know where the drain is

Since you did not include a model number this is my best guesses:
http://manuals.appliancesonline.com.au/kcm2100wc/kcm2100wc.pdf (Page 1 w/pic)

and
http://www.appliancesdirect.com/InstallationPdf/49-60442.pdf (page 7 no pictures)

For Complete Defrosting

Turn the temperature control to the

OFF position and unplug the freezer.

Remove all food and place it in

corrugated boxes, insulated bags,

picnic coolers, etc. Use towels and

newspapers for insulation as needed.

With the door/lid open, use pans of

hot water to speed loosening of frost.

Remove large pieces before they melt.

Chest models have a defrost water drain

at the front.

NOTE: Water may drip from the back flange of

the lid cover during defrosting. This is normal.

Ice builds up in the lid insulation when the lid is

open for adding or removing food, and melts

during the defrosting operation.

Sponge excess water from the bottom

of the freezer as it collects to prevent

overflowing.

After defrosting, clean the inside of the

freezer (see Care and Cleaning).

Replace the drain plug inside the

cabinet and the cap on the defrost

drain. Fold over and dry the gasket

on the hinge side of the lid.

Plug in the freezer. Return the

temperature control to its previous

position and return food to the freezer.

Hopefully with this information you can find the drain. If not go to www.ge.com and click on service and support to download your manual. (Model number required)
or contact them here:

Is there anyway to view cleaning instructions for pop up toasters online

Model number?
In general unplug it, go outside, remove any slip out tray from underneath and shake toaster, also turn it upside down and shake it, dont touch the elements or poke near them and wipe down the outside with mild detergent/hot water mix.
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

There is a burning smell and outside of freezer compartment top and side are hot to the touch . Even though everything seems to be working. I have since unplugged the unit. This problem was first noticed...

This sounds as if the defrost is stuck on. This could be due to a failed defrost timer or
failure of the defrost termination thermostat in combination with the defrost timer stuck.
I would replace both at the same time. Some disagree on this, but if the contacts are
burnt in the defrost timer due to power surges, then the termination thermostat contacts
may also be burnt.

I am getting power and the freezer appears to be working but the fridge is not cold at all, any suggestions? Many thanks Dave McRae

Hi Dave and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly,

Take a look in the back of the freezer compartment. Look for any signs of icing on the back access cover. Usually but not always the evaporator coils freeze up because the unit is not automatically defrosting properly or there is a problem with the evaporator fan not running fast enough / at all. Press gently with your hand of the back cover of the freezer compartment and feel for ice. Also check the front of the chassis for signs of being HOT. It is ok to be warm not hot.
Also check to see that the light goes on and off as you actuate the light switch plunger. Some units have the door switch in the top of the door hinge but most have the switch in the door fold area of the chassis some where.

If you find that the evaporator coils have iced up:
  • Perform a manual defrost of the unit but first unplugging it
  • Remove the freezer contents
  • Direct an external fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hrs. (makes a water mess)
  • After 2 hrs clean up the water mess and return the unit to normal service.
  • Watch after 3 days if the fresh food compartment once again starts warming up. If it does you have and automatic defrosting problem.
No ice noted:
  • Possible temp control problem (Thermostat / cold control or thermistor)
  • Possible Air Damper problem. There are 2 kinds of air dampers. One is electrically controlled and the other is nothing but a mechanical baffle that is positioned partially open. If you have the electrical type the air damper motor may have failed or the movable baffle is stuck.
Front of chassis is almost HOT to the touch vs warm:
  • Open the back of the unit by removing the black fiberboard cover and inspect for lint and that the condenser fan is running anytime the compressor is running.
Light always on:
  • Door switch failure. Some door switches also control the evaporator fan along with water in door and ice in door functions. The water and ice in door should NOT work with the door open.
The above is pretty much an in home repair techicians check list for the symptom you describe.
If you discover that you have an automatic defrosting problem I will need you MAKE & MODEL number via your next response here so I can tell you what you can do to troubleshoot. (
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

The fridge section of my Candy CPCA270FFK frost free fridge freezer is cool but not cold whilst the freezer section is warm. The appliance is silent, the compressor is very hot to touch and the control...

IF THE COMPRESSOR IS TO HOT TO TOUCH WITH YOUR HAND MORE THEN LIKELY THE REED VALVES IN THE COMPRESSOR ARE PASSING HOT GAS BACK INTO THE COMPRESSOR AND HAS DAMAGED THE UNIT. MY ADVICE IS TO LOOK ON TOP OF THE COMPRESSOR GET THE MODEL# & SERIAL # & MAKE AND LOOK ON LINE AND GET A PRICE FOR A NEW COMPRESSOR, PENDING ON MAKE AND MODEL THEY RUN AROUND 3-4 HUNDRED DOLLARS JUST FOR COMPRESSOR INSTALL CAN COST MORE THEN THE COMPRESSOR UNLESS YOU KNOW SOME ONE WHO HAS THETOOLS TO DO IT RIGHT
