Question about Dell Computers & Internet

1 Answer

The DVD drive will not read any CDs or DVDs. The drive opens and closes just fine. The green light that lights up and blinks when a CD/DVD is in use is now constantly on and doesn't respond when a disk is placed in the drive. I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 and under the Device Manager window the drive is called PBDS DVD -RW DS-8W1P ATA Device. Any help?

Did not resolve issue. Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting Services said CD was unreadable but I have tried other CDs and the result is the same.

Hi,

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Disk drive lenovo computer not open

Is the 'D' drive the cd/dvd drive? If so, try cds or dvds of different types to see what works. Some cd units won't read a dvd. A little light should come on if the drive is trying to read. No light, drive is dead.

Error 0a-0224-0000

Dear Vincent,

The 0A-0224-0000 is a "File Copy Failed" error. It means that either the computer was not able to read from the CD/DVD or it finished reading from one CD/DVD and was expecting to read data from the next one (when you have two or more recovery CDs/DVDs). If you have more than one recovery CD/DVD, as soon as you see the CD/DVD reader LED (light) stop flashing, eject the CD and insert the next one in the sequence, doing so till all recovery CDs/DVDs have been read.

If you cannot eject the DVDs by pressing the eject button (some DVD writers only allow you to eject the disc after finishing the whole operation) you will have to straighten up a paper clip and insert it in the small hole close to the eject button to force it open and change the CD or DVD (do a Google search for "how to open a CD or DVD drive with a paperclip, in order to better understand how to do it)".

Hope this helps!

It's most likely a hardware problem with the drive. You can try cleaning the laser carefully, but 95% of the time the drive needs to be replaced when users experience this problem.
