Hi fkjedi,

Most Maxtor drives all use the same configuration, but HERE a link to explain and show you how to configure each drive. You can print it out and save this for future use.

Thanks

I have an extra hard drive that I would like to add as a slave HD to my computer the one I want to be a slave is a MAXTOR model 32049H2. how do I set up the jumper?

moz-screenshot.pngI would guess that it is a diamond max driver, and therefore the jumper setting for slave should be no jumper at all. But in case I am mistaken, here are all the jumper setups for Maxtor drives, choose the one that looks like your setup and then choose the correct Slave setting:oss279.jpg

I have a maxtor H.D. model # 31024h1 , i cannot find the jumper settings to distinguish between master and slave

Typically, for older MAXTOR drives, put the jumper on the 2 pins closest to where the ribbon-cable connects, to set it to 'MASTER'.
Remove all the jumpers to set it to 'SLAVE'.

I need the jumper setting for mode 2l51536H

you don't give much info to go on- but if you are adding a second hd and have your os on the existing hd, then you should set your second on 'slave'. there should be a label on the hd showing you where to set the jumper for 'slave' mode. make sure it's connected to the same cable as the other hd. 0n the second connector!
they have their priorities!
good luck!

Setting Maxtor HD as Slave.

Howdy,

First "easy" one I've had in hours....

Just pull the J50 pin out of the jumper block and PRESTO it'll be a slave the OFF position literally reffers to having the J50 pin off of the hard drive. Just a note though, I highly recommend using a peice of scotch tape to affix the pin to a nearby surface cause there a real pain to find if and when you need em again.

Jumper Settings

If you leave it at cable select the cable will set the drive to either master or slave depending on where it is on the cable, the first or second connector. Just make sure any other drive hooked up is set to cable select.

Your best option is to actually set each drive to master and slave. Each drive should show you where to put the jumper. Make sure you only have one master and slave though.

Which jumper to use? The one thats already on the HD...?
:D

New (used) hard drive

Just remvoe the cd rom and then try to install your hard disk. if it is detected than it means there is a problem of setting master and slave in jumper.

So just check again your jumper settings and read the front side description of hard disk for jumper settings.

Cannot boot in Slave mode

i have never heared of any hardrive being able to boot when it is set as slave, as the master is always the 'C' drive from which windows looks for the master boot record. why, if you have only one hard drive is it set as slave?, it doesnt make sense. No hard drive will boot up if there is no jumper cap on it, as the motherboard needs to know which hd is master and has the o.s on it.
