Donwload "spybot search and destroy" run and clean anything found
download "adaware SE", install scan and clean. run and clean anything found
run "hijack this" look at startup items and remove un-needed items. Also remove any browser helper objects "BHO''s" found
Then your computer will/should behave. cheers.
as for email , i'll bet your antivirus program is blocking it. look at your email account settings. Verify the outbound email server settings (SMTP Server) is correct for your emial provider.
Emial >> Tools >> options >> Accounts >>> mail servers
