Hello.

From info on HP Support, the Memory FinderPavilion dv7 series uses the DD2 memory. The max amount of memory would be 8 GB.

Hope this helps.

NO, please do not change the memory cards on your own. To ascertain what memory you can use please remove the bottom plates to access the memory. Remove one of them and see what memory is it. You can use only this type as they all have different set of gold connectors. In computers the connectors are so designed that you can not wrongly connect anything. So is the case of memory too. And all motherboards are made for a certain type of memory only.

Hi pfcdressler.

If you using DDR2 RAM Modules in the Computer now, you may go ahead and use the DDR3 RAM.

All the latest Motherboards support the DDR3 RAM.

If the Computer has a PCI or PCI express slot, you may use the DDR3 RAM.

As you have not provided the exact Model # of the Computer, it would be better if you provide the exact Model #.

You may also check with your favorite Computer retailer to confirm if the Motherboard supports the DDR3 RAM.

However, you may also provide me the exact Model # of the Computer, so that I can provide the exact information.

Hope this helps.

Please feel free to ask further questions.

Installing memory upgrade

Hello: there is a memory upgrade compartment on the bottom of you computer, It may had one or two screws holding the cover in place. Take off the cover and the memory bay should be exposed. Install memory of the same speed and type, you might want to take the memory with you for exact matching. There should be an extra slot for upgrading.

Thanks hope this helps, Please leave comment

Compaq Presario Notebook V3000T I replaced the 2-256mb memory cards with 2-1g memory cards. System boots up but only reads 1024mb?

Thanks to Microsoft Knowledge Base for help with my answer:

First, find out what the maximum amount of memory is. This is generally listed by most of the manufacturers. This will let you know what upgrade potential the system has. Next, determine how the memory configuration is when you buy the system. For example, a laptop that has 2GB of memory can be configured as either a single 2GB module or two 1GB modules. The single memory module allows for better upgrade potential because by adding another module you are gaining more memory without sacrificing any current memory. Upgrading the two module situation with a 2GB upgrade would result in the loss of one 1GB module and a memory total of 3GB.

Your laptop can have up to 1 GB of memory. You should have two slots and you can install 512 MB per slot. Your laptop is using 200 Pin DDR PC2100 266 MHz CL 2.5 SODIMM. You can also install PC3200, but your laptop will clock it down to 266 MHz.
