Question about Kodak EasyShare M883 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Recently, i've been having an issue with my Kodak Easyshare M883 camera Every time i press the power button, the camera turns on, makes a weird noise, zooms in and out to refocus, makes the noise again, then completely shuts off. Its done this every time i turn it on for about a month now. I am completely able to review my pictures, let alone take any. I've tried plugging it into the computer, and even charging it overnight. please help me.

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel after dropping it. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful.

Regards
Andrea

Today I turned on my camera to take a picture and while it was turning on it made a weird noise, zoomed in and out, and then turned off. Why does it do this?

Are you using Li-ion batteries as recommended by Kodak?
Also, are they charged up sufficiently?

Many people try to use Alkaline or even NiMH batteries without success in Kodak digital cameras.

I would suggest using charged up Li-ion batteries.

The camera turns on, zooms then goes off

Looks like your zoom button is stuck. Try pressing both the W and T sides several times keeping the camera off. If this doesn't work, you'll have to go for a service center.

M883 plugged into usb port does not seem to be charging

When charging from the computer the camera needs to be turned off. If the camera is turned on the camera is using it's power trying to transferre pictures over to the computer.

M883 Powers on then off ?

Check if there is ample space on the memory and good charge on the battery and try, if it still persists then there is a fault on the lens moving out and in, probably because u wud have dropped it.

Thankyou

When turning on the power the lens zooms in and out and then the camera turns off.

Digital Camcorders are most times not serviceable especially with issues of this kind.

If the camcorder is not up to a months old, please take it back for an exchange
