Question about Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) Console

1 Answer

I've had my PSP 1000 for a few years now, but I've recently been experiencing a problem where the psp automatically enters hold mode without me touching the switch, I'm thinking that this is a hardware problem as sometimes I can't turn the system on without flicking the hold switch on and off first. any ideas?

Yeah, the hold switch got stuck. Flash the firmware first and see. Or replace the switch or the whole thing.

Not working unless plugged in at the mains? PSP 1000

Maybe you accidentally made a pandora battery..

plug in the mains.. hold left shoulder and turn on your psp.. you should be in recovery mode after doing that.. go to advance.. then.. insert the batt. your psp. then select "make normal battery".. then exit recovery..

hope it works.. Goodluck :)

My psp(2000) wont get into recovery mode

You need custom firmware to enter recovery mode. If you already have custom firmware, access recovery mode by COMPLETELY turning off your PSP and turning it back on while holding the R button.

Picture won't show when turned on?

It sounds like your PSP has been bricked and you need to fix it with a pandora battery kit from The pandora battery kit comes with a memory stick that contains the program to recover your psp and install custom firmwares if you want and the battery places the PSP in service mode to allow it to be operated on by the program. You could try recovering your PSP by making sure its off. Then hold the right R trigger on the PSP and hold it while turning it on. If you see a PSP recovery menu then you can recover it without a pandora battery kit. It may take a few times before it enters the recovery menu, but note that all PSP's dont have them on there.

Ok...this sounds crazy but it happened to one of my PSPs. I updated the firmware on my system and the menu started stalling and taking a long time to respond. I shut the PSP all the way down....holding the power button until the light shuts off (about 4 or 5 seconds)...Hold the R button and power the system on again (you should be in recovery mode)...go to CPU speed and make sure it is either set at "Default" or "222"....I belive 222 is the default setting....also make sure the UMD is also set at "Default" or 222....if you're going to use the UMD.

My R button is my hold button

Acutally is not like R=hold, the fact is, your R button is more likely to be semi-automatic or fully automatic now. Even on a fully working psp, when you press select or home button while you holding the L button or R button, the same thing will appear as your own psp.

Let you know a temporary solution, hold the R or L button or both firmly for a minute, your psp might come back to normal for a few seconds or something.

Look for some professional repair service to get your L or R repaired.

Let me know if this works.
