Question about Hitachi 60V500 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
The light engine (the projector part of tv) is failing. The only way to fix it is to replace it. That will cost several hundred bucks at the least, they are not cheap.

I had the same problem. The solution is to replace the light engine. I purchased mine from Tri-State Modules and replaced it myself. You can do it yourself if you are handy and careful. Most places that sell the light engines charge around a thousand dollars. Tri-State Modules can repair your own light engine or you can buy a replacement for much less (I paid $379).
