I know this is a tough job. Try dripping something like liquid wrench down inside and tap with a wooden block.

Whirlpool models generally only have two methods of removing the agitator. One type uses a hex bolt, and the other uses a recessed square nut. The removal procedures are explained in the link provided. I hope this helps you. Please let me know if still have questions.

SOURCE: not agitating

Check your drive coupler. Its the rubber piece between the motor and the transmission which makes the washer agitate and spin. the easiest way to check it is to lean the machine back and look for rubber on the floor. Then look behind the motor to see if it is still in tact. Next try wiggling it, If it wiggles a lot replace it. If that doesnt fix your problem, you probably have a bad transmission.

your agitator dog ears are worn, can get some from your nearby appliance shop or order from Repairclinic.com,,,,,not hard to replace, just pop cap off with a screwdriver then with a 7/16 socket ,ratchet and extension remove the bolt in top of agitator then lift out the dog ear assembly and replace,be sure to look at the grooves your dog ears lock onto see if they are bad

Agitator wobbling from the stem. it comes right

Those are the agitator dog ears. They have teeth that grip and turn the top agitator during the wash cycle. It must be replaced when damaged or worn.
  1. Unplug the washer.
  2. Remove the fabric softener dispenser by pulling it off the agitator top.
  3. Look for the prying location on the agitator cap and insert a flat blade screwdriver between the agitator cap and the agitator then pry the cap off.
  4. Use a socket wrench, usually 7/16", with extension to remove the stud and seal holding the agitator to the shaft.
  5. Pull the top agitator from the bottom agitator.
  6. Pull the cam that holds the agitator dog ears from the top agitator.
  7. Lay the cam on its top and install the agitator dog ears on their slots.
  8. Hold the cam on one hand and the top agitator on the other.
  9. Slide the cam up into the top agitator and turn it over so that the agitator dog ears do not fall off.
  10. Reinstall the top agitator into the bottom agitator.
  11. Reinstall the agitator assembly into the shaft.

Agitator top portion not working

You need dog ears for your agitator. They cost about 50 cents and are in stock at most appliance parts stores. Tor replace them remove the top cover from the agitator. Uncer the cover there till be a bolt to take the agitator off. They are 4 pieces of plastic that resemble dog ears and lock your agitator in one direction while allowing it to spin in the other.

Need to get the agitator off

that's funny [feed dogs]they are called, dog ears but you do now have to feed the dogs because their not working.lol.hey you will have to get those parts on-line or at an appliance store.lowes wont carry those that i know.anyway if you pop the cap of the agitator you will see a piece that has a small handle.pull up and remove that piece.then you will see the bolt to remove to pull the agaitator[its a 7/16]take a good look at how its together before you take apart.......ok now that the agitator is out place on floor, put feet on the bottom piece and pull up on the top piece til comes off.then dump out the piece in the top w/dog ears in it........install new ears in that piece and reinstall upside down, inthe top piece of the agitator.then apply pressure on the dog ear retainer and place over the bottom piece of the agitate aligning the two little tabs sticking up on the bottom piece of the agitator with the little cut outs in the dog ear retainer....now take your socket to place bolt back on,put some plastic wrapper or package from dogs in the socket and push the bolt into it.then place the bolt in the hole of the dog ear retainer .now lift agitator up and place onto transmission shaft and tighten bolt and place cover back on................boy that was a lot of words.that should do it for you God bless you Tiffany ,from tom

We have a modle # LLR7144DQ0 - the agitator is not working properly. It is not pulling the clothes down into the water.

The agitator 'dog ears' have worn out. Very easy to replace.
  • Remove fabric softener or protective cap on top of agitator
  • Remove center bolt securing agitator.
  • Lift out agitator and replace dog ears.

Agitator won't spin back and forth like its stripped

I think what you have going here is some worn agitating ears. In the appliance world we call them dog ears. You have to remove the fabric desp, it should just pop off. Under there will be a cap that you can grab with a needle nose pliers and pull the cap off. Now you will be looking at the bolt that holds the agitator to the shaft. Remove this bolt and you can get to the dog ears and plastic bearing. There is a kit for this and the part number is 3951682. This is not a hard fix...just take your time and observe.
