Craftsman DGS6500 Garden Tractor 24 HP Kohler engine. Messages says CH6 Oil - what does it mean? Oil is full and new.

You should be able to push it forwards as well as backwards. I had a similar problem (engine stalling) with mine. I found out if I half choke it, it will stay running. Transmission may still have a problem.

Hello, if you have a Kohler engine you would use any 10w30 oil, but if it is a Briggs & Stratton you would use SAE HD30 oil. Either can be purchased from your local auto parts store. When you refill be careful to not over fill. Use the dip stick to ensure you have the proper oil level. Over filling will cause the engine to smoke under load or possibly blow out a seal. Good Luck!

First check fuel shutoff valve on bottom of carb . Disconnect and remove , clean witn carb cleaner and be sure there is power at wire when the key is on . Also clean carb jets and bowl .....

Try cleaning or better yet, replacing the spark plug. Depending on age and how your tractor was maintained, there are other possible causes.

• Gummed up fuel system
• dirty fuel filter
• defective or misaligned armature/magneto (part that causes your plug to spark, igniting the air/fuel mixture, thus starting the engine)
• throttle linkage/cable problems
• low oil level. Some Kohler engines use a low oil shut down sensor which won't allow the engine to run or start to avoid internal damage.
• Mechanical engine problems

It all depends on the engine you have...all engines except for KOHLER can use straight 30 and Kohler uses only 10W30.
