The 2 chips are on a large metal heat sink near the back of the tv. They will be on the opposite side and will have stamped on them (example) STK392-560. You may also have a blown pico fuse (look like a solid colored resistor part number on board will be like (example) ps8001, you'll need a meter to check if any are open or not most times they are. RepairKits This website will take you to a place to buy the parts you need to fix it. good luck.

The bulbs are all working. The picture has shrunk into a saddle shape. The focus is off.

Symptom shows tv got convergence output chips failure problem, this tv has two big convergence output ICs/ chips on D board that will be replaced to get back correct picture.

If it looks 3d you have a convergence problem.

This model should use two of the STK-392-560 convergence chips for this circuit.

Both will have to be replaced and a few other easy to check parts tested also.

If you have some expertise or have a friend who does I can step you thru the repair.

Parts cost will be if purchased on EBAY (I have seller I can recommend there) under 30 dollars total.

Let me know if you have questions and thank you for using FIXYA.

Thats a convergence failure issue. The Sony Type 1 convergence repair kit available from is the kit your model uses. The kit contains the parts and the CD with instructions.

Double image ( Ghost image )on Sony KP-65WS500

Replacing the Convergence ICs should fix the problem. They are located on the Deflection board. Sony has used a couple of different ones over the years I think they are STK-392-120's but please do not hold me to it.
Hope this helps,

Your TV most likely has a Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site They have put together convergence repair kits for most models.

The kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, etc. Everything you will need to do the repair yourself.

Horrible Convergence Problem on Start

I doubt it. In a problem like this it could be a power supply that feeds the convergence ic(s). The longer you wait to have this problem taken care of the more of a risk your taking of blowing out the ICs, if there already not bad. Its highly unlikly all three ics went bad at once, unless of a power supply problem. Now this set is not serviceable by the end user as its solid state and all parts are soldered in. Also theres alot of HI Voltage inside this set!! Have the set checked out by a technician ASAP for a bad filter capacitor in the b+ line that feeds the convergence ics Good Luck
