Question about Navman Tracker 5500i GPS Receiver

Open Question

I have NAVMAN 5505i Chart plotter (Internal Antenna). I use it in Cockpit of MOODY 422 Yacht. I also have GPS at Chart Table connected to external Antenna. I Only use Unit at Chart Table for plotting posn on paper charts. I use Navman in Cockpit for nav esp into Harbours etc. The signal fails on the 5505i on a regular basis. It is wirst if sailing where the boom or main sail is over the Unit thus clouding the signal. It is also poor in High Pressure whilst the other unit keeps showing the Lat/ Long. The problem seems to get worse when the unit has been switched on continuously for several hours (4 or 5). I think that it's performance would be greatly enhanced if I could retrofit the external Antenna option. Please advise me if this is an option. Can I do it myself if you supply connectors, instructions and Antenna or where may I send the unit to have the modification carried out. Apart from this problem, I like the unit as it is easy to use and the screen is a useful size without being too large. I would appreciate your advice in this matter. Yours faithfully, Seamus McAleese

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: Navman icn 520 stuck on USB screen

I had this problem when I completely deleted the Backup folder from \My Flash Disk.

Restoring the backup folder allowed the 520 to operate properly again.

It is possible that you have a corrupted APPStartupSec.exe application. Without this file working it appears that the NAVMAN waits in USB mode for ever!

Hope this helps.

Be sure there isn't any aluminum in close proximity to your GPS antenna, or that your antenna is not to close to other powerful electronics. Aluminium reflects electromagnetic signals and other electronics emit EM fields as well causing disruption of your GPS signal reaching your antenna.

n the system setup, under “UNITS” I set BEARING to “MAG” (magnetic). This will cause the unit to display course / bearing information in relation to the Magnetic North and match magnetic compass readings. It is not the same as True North! One has to be careful with this setting. There are a number of areas where the earth's magnetic field is locally disturbed, sometimes very significantly. Your GPS may not account for it. - again, under “UNITS” I set “METRIC”.

I am having same trouble. I contacted Navman NSW and went through all the settings without result. It was suggested that the problem could be the external antenna, if not a fault in the machine. I have seen an after market antenna for about $19 so I might try that. It does seem as though the antenna is not talking to the Tracker.

Ref ICN330. The external antenna connection is on the top side of the flip up Antenna on the unit itself. There is a small rubber plug covering this, adjacent to the Navman logo.. Ricmac

I've had the same problem. before replacing the antenna, try to reset the antenna by removing power to the Raystar 120. Disconnect power by either turning off all batteries or disconnecting the red wire from the antenna at the point where it enters the junction box for the chartplotter. This action effectively removes all memory from the antenna and resets it to factory settings. There is a lithianium battery in GPS antenna that holds memory data in the antenna. Disconnecting the power to the antenna for a few seconds clears the memory.

This is exactly what I did and when I turned the chartplotter back on, my Raystar 120 immediately began working again.
