Question about Maytag Dishwashers
Although it works correctly, code in your area may be an issue.
Some building codes require an air gap drainage system for dishwashers.
You could install a air gap device that the dishwasher drain hose attaches to,then another hose from the air gap to the drain.
If it is not a code issue in your area and the drain hose is secured higher than the drain outlet,it is only a recommendation from the H. I.
Contact your local building Inspection department for a clarification.
The way your is connected is the reason plumbing supply stores sell dishwasher "Y" connectors.
An air gap connector installed in-line prevents raw sink water from back-flowing into the dishwasher.
But then,so does a dishwasher drain line secured higher than the drain outlet.
The owners/installation manual describes acceptable drain hookups. Most building departments accept manufacturers recommendations.
Most Home Inspectors are neither certified nor licensed.
