Check the hose to make sure it's not clogged. You can do this by dropping a marble in one end and allowing it to roll through. If clogged, try placing the "wrong" end against the intake port of the vacuum and turning it on. If this doesn't work, try a shop or canister vacuum, hooking up to the exhaust port. If still no success, you may need to take it in to the dealer.
Also check inside the intake port for clogs. The piece of flex tube in the power head is another area where clogs form easily.
Make sure the "dirt tank" is empty and the filter is clean.
Another cause of lost or poor suction/air flow is a leaky hose. For this, replacement is the only solution.

SOURCE: My dirt devil vacuum won't suck up anything and its brand new!!

The screws along the base of the vacuum must be removed . The vacuum cleaner cover must then be removed exposing the suctioning hose syphoning the debris from brush roll area. Pull the hose from the brush roll area letting it hang freely. Remove the back side removeable hose from its base and force a straigth piece of pipe through the hose to force out the clog through the free opening.

Make sure the removable clear plastic tank part is properly seated and locked in. It will lock in even if it is not seated properly.

Any warranty dealer for Dirt Devil should be able to supply a schematic for that machine. They have access to the dealer web site and can download the information.

Dirt Devil R088100. Cloth Was Sucked Into Hole Below Dirt Holder

Brad, Hopefully it is the belt that you smell burning. I would start by removing the underneath side of the vacuum head. Normally just a few screws that are meant to be remove for general maintanence and circumstances such as this. After removing the screws this should reveal the dirty side of life to you. You may need to remove the roller brush, and inspect the ends to make sure the brush rolls freely while holding the ends. If not the ends may need to be cleaned of hair and strings: ends should pop of and a shaft runs through the middle connecting them. Clean and replace. Move on up the path the dirt travels. The neck where the head and vacuum come together is the next jamming point, if this is where the cloth is lodged chances are the motor may have over heated due to clogging. Your vacuum may have a automatic shut off. You will need to contact Dirt Devil to see if there is a reset for the motor. There are propellers / fan blades at the end of the neck just before the motor housing. This is most likely where the clothe has logged itself causing the brushes on the electric motor to emit the burning smell, if you can remove all obstructions and the unit still does not turn on, check with dirt devil about the reset, Hope this helps.
