Take the roller brush out and make sure it turns freely on the end pieces that hold it in place. Clean both ends and hit with a bit of WD40. Remove hair, string, dust, dirt. Make sure the belt is oriented properly and it is properly connected to the motor shaft. AND, is the motor shaft that operates the brush turning?

How do I fix my vacuum the brush will not spin

Lubricate each end of the roller brush with motor oil. Bearings inside the roller brush need lubrication for the brush to turn easily. Remove any pieces of thread that have wrapped around the roller brush. If it does not spin after doing the above steps, then either the belt is slipping or the bearings are severely damaged in the roller brush. Then you need either a smaller belt or a new roller brush.

The brush roll may have hair and debris stuck in the end caps restricting them from turning freely. Remove the brush roll to check them

Roller not turning when vaccuming

just had the same exact issue with mine - took everything apart - found that the swivel roller brush wasnt turning. it was not any belt issues or motor issues. took out brush roller - held in my hand by holding just the hand cap still - and tried turning the roller with my other hand. roller would not turn at all but is supposed to with no effort. on some models the end caps pop off but most are one piece and are just discarded and a new roller bought - seems to be $10-$20 for one for most dirt devils and under $10 shipping in north america. you can try something down the side of the roller and end cap like a razor - i did cut lose some crud and it works - but roller still stops on 2 of 4 settings on the rug because of this. i've already ordered a new one.

Roller not spinning

Possible belt broken. If you smell an odor like burning rubber it could be the belt that turns the roller if not the belt could be broken already.Possible string or something else wrapped around roller. If you have animals in home they shed and the hair or fur gets wrapped around roller and it will stop the roller.

I accidentally sucked up a thin belt that wrapped around the bristles and stopped the bristles and now the bristles wont turn

You need to remove the thin belt from the roller if you haven't already. Check the ends of the roller to make sure there is nothing there stopping the roller from turning. You can try turning the roller with your hand using minimal force.

I believe this unit has a switch on the front of the handle for the brush motor. It may cut off if the roller gets hung up. Have you tried turning this on?

In summary try cleaning everything off of the roller and then check for the switch that I mentioned. Let us know how you make out and good luck!

Dc 14 no suction/noise

Hi,

The sound you can hear is the clutch slipping the machine is designed to do this if the brush roller is jammed or foriegn object obstructing brush roller.

Remove the sole plate by turning the 3 plastic screws to unlock pull off sole plate now look for anything that is stopping brush from easily turning. If nothing obviouse but roller hard to turn by hand remove the brush roller & check the bearings at either end of the roller if they are siezed up A new roller will sort this out.

If brush roller is turning freely then your problem will be warn out clutch this will need replacing.

Its A lot to explain so try this site it has clutch removing manual for Dc14. http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/

Bissell vacuum blet smells burnt

It is probably slipping and needs to be replaced. Also check the brush roll, make sure the ends are ok and turning freely, if not, then replace it also.

I can't get the power brush belt on tight. Am I missing something?

I don't know what brand of vacuum you have, but the belts on most vacuums should be changed approx. once a year. The belt can look fine, but is stretched and won't have the necessary tension to turn the roller. It is possible that the roller is in need of servicing. If the bearings in the roller are fouled with dirt and hair, they will not turn properly and a new belt will not solve your problem. Take the roller out of the machine and turn the end caps by hand. They should turn freely. Once you've determined that the roller is o.k., install a new belt, turn the roller by hand to make sure that nothing is jammed and then try the machine again.
