Question about Comfort-Aire RAD-81 Air Conditioner
It sounds like your compressor start capacitor is to blame ..to get to it the front plastic cover needs to be removed ..remove the control panel to see the capacitor ..its round or ovel /silver/ an wires hook to the top of it ..look to see if the top is bulging or leaking fluid ..this helps the compressor /fan /start ..let me know.. an good luck../joe/

If this is a central air unit & you\'re talking about the fan on the outide of the house the problem may be that you are only getting 110 volts to the system side of the contactor. If you have the tools & know how you can check this yourself. If not, time to call a repairman.

Check your coils for ice, check your breaker and fuses for condensing unit, and is your condensing fan running? If not, you either have a bad fan motor or capicitor. After you hit the button, and wait for it to time out, (you should hear a click) take a butter knife, and spin the fan if it is not moving. If the fan start spinning by itself after your assistance, you have a bad capacitor

It could be as simple as being low on refrigerant. Depends on how expensive the unit is if its worth recharging and how big the unit is. Some small units will need to have a recharge point fitted which cost more of course.
