I thought my batteries were dead, so I changed them. When turning the camera on, nothing happens. I have changed out the batteries any times and nothing works.

New batteries and I only get a blink of one green then 10 red light blinks. The camera has never been dropped. Who makes this for Kodak?

C643 seemed to be draining more battery power than usual until today. Daughter's first day at the Zoo and the camera won't power up. Thought I had a bad set of batteries, but they all test perfectly.  Turn the dial and the light flashes green once and red 10 times and nothing else happens. My wife points out that our last Kodak only lasted 2 years and it is almost two years to the day for this one.  At least I took along the old Pentax 35mm today as my back up.

  • Anonymous Oct 12, 2008

Same thing is happening with mine. I keep changing the batteries, I've tried almost every single brand with every single position. No lights flash or anything, and the camera is new.

Same thing happended with my camera. Not even a year old!

I have the same problem with Kodak Easyshare C813. I change the batteries but the camera STILL won't power on.

  • dreynolds4 Oct 26, 2008

I have had a kodak easyshare c643 digital camera for nearly two years. For the last year, there have been times when I have put brand new batteries in and just a few minutes later the camera went dead. There have also been times when I've pushed the button to take a picture and there is no flash, no picture and the camera seemed to "jam", with the zoom lens sticking out. After a few minutes of taking batteries out and putting them back in, it finally turns on and the lens goes back in.

This is very frustrating. It was a gift and I have no warranty.

    Any ideas?

The camera will only turn on when I plug it into the AC cord. It will not work on its batteries. I have already tried replacing the batteries.

I heard from another posting on here and the answer, that someone took fine sandpaper and cleaned off the terminal ends of both battery and camera and blew out the dust particles from that before replacing the battery, then then camera worked. I have yet to try it with my Kodak camera that is 2 years old and suddenly died too! The batteries are fine and work in other cameras.

I went to buy some batteries in a train station and was warned by the helpful attendant that the standard batteries that they sold may not work and allowed me to open the packet and try them first. She was right and they did not work. Since then I have relied on expensive special AAs that specifically say they are intended for use in digital cameras and have managed to get about 150 photos out of the camera per set of batteries, which is still pretty poor mileage if you ask me.

Even with new batteries can not power unit up and the lens is open

I have the same problem took a picture then camera went off with lens still open, thought it was the battery so bought a new battery but still will not work, its as though the camera is dead. Is it possible to get it repaired or should I just buy another camera. Does anyone know what type of camera to buy that does the same things as the Kodak Easyshare C643 Digital camera.

Kodak easyshare c643 - batteries are fresh, but it won't power on. The "on" light turns green then flashes red.

If the camera has recently been dropped you may have lens damage that is preventing it from powering up. If it hasn't been dropped your problem may be due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera and give them a full charge (assuming that you are using rechargeable batteries). This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

C643 won't turn of, screen is black

The problem you describe is frequently the result of dirty/corroded battery contacts in the camera. Try removing the batteries and cleaning the inside contacts with a fine wire brush, steel wool, or fine sandpaper. Remove any residue left from the cleaning, then replace the batteries. Hopefully all will be well.

If the cleaning doesn't work you might want to check the Kodak troubleshooting guide at:

Kodak C643..what is wrong?

i bought some nimh rechargeable batteries a couple years ago and they still work to this day. im on my second camera with them and it does that to me when the batteries are dead. try opening the battery door when it does it and then close it and try turning it on again. if it does come on then its the batteries.

Another question...

I haven't any direct experience with that model to really know,
but the 16meg memory in the camera is listed to be to be flash in some specs I read ,which makes sense.
but if you have to replace the main board then the pics are gone.

Kodak C643 died...

the pics on the memory card should still be fine.
you will have to purchase a memory card reader
they are inexpensive ,for example a usb memory sd reader goes for around 25.00
be sure it can read sd memory
the memory card is ejected next to the batteries.

when you insert them in the reader it will read as another drive and you will see your pics.
