Asus combo drive model CB 5216A can't read any dvds but it reads & writes cd very well.please help.

This IS a CD Drive.

check cables.if they are ok,re-install drivers.the disable drive from device manager & restart the pc

lens is not working, u need to replace ur dvd drive

have the same same problem unsolved yet. it's not on the software actually, it's in the installation of the drive...

some optical devices choose DVD/CD. if it fake maybe it doesnt read.  on the other hand you can try to clean its lens.

most older drives can't read multi session... you need to have a drive installed to be able to read multi session burn. there is no software tweak that can fix this... you need to replace the drive. otherwise burn the data as single session.

Step 1: Start Registry Editor
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. Registry Editor starts.
Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry
1. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
2. Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.
3. Expand Control, and then expand Class.
4. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
5. In the right pane (topic area), click UpperFilters.
Note An UpperFilters.bak registry entry may also appear. To delete the UpperFilters registry entry, you must click UpperFilters and not UpperFilters.bak.
6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
restart the system then check for the drive

need to install ASUSDVD player...the problem with my DVD is that it can play DVD movies or videos but it cannot write on DVD discs...please help... thanks...

try to clean the rom with lens cleaner.
or you have to replace it with new one.

is this new? but a dvd in and it be a drive d: or E: when you look at in "my computer" or "windows explorer" the drive icon should show the little game icon.. you also might try just to explore the drive and see if you see folders and things, a setup should appear or the "game".exe if you you cant see anything reboot and hit your set-up key, mine is f1 ...then look at the drives it finds. I need more info..to really help.
