This usually happens if the software driver has not been installed. Install it from the discs that came with your computer. I hope this resolves the problem, on the other hand let me know so we can try something else. Thanks and regards.

Sorry to disappoint you but two things, the plastic screen you are referring to is simply a piece of plastic where the webcam would be, if you have the model that has the integrated webcam. This model does not have an integrated webcam, the sister model does. Here are the specs of your model!

I am using windows 7 ultimate opertaing system on dell inspiron laptop. It has integrated webcam in it. i am trying to open the webcam but i am getting the error that webcam is not connected.

How are you trying to open the webcam? In skype? Or a video chat program? Does the error say anything else besides "not connected?"
Many different things could cause it to malfunction.

I dont know how to turn on my youcam

I have confirmed that your CQ56-103SG does have a webcam, thank you for the information, but it doesn't seem to be integrated. Here is a link to the specs.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02643040&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN#N24

Notice the webcam is listed as under "What's in the box" which means it is something connected to the laptop not an integrated device.

Once the device is plugged in follow the instructions and you should be set.

If by some chance we have the model number wrong and your webcam IS an integrated device, I also found the following instructions:

""You need to hold down the button that says Fn on it (it's in blue letters, bottom left on keyboard next to the Ctrl key) and press F6. That switches it on and off! ""

God bless and good luck

Fresh vista install now webcam don't work on hp computer.

whats the Exact model of the HP Laptop - I assuming the webcam is integrated on the laptop - if so we should be able to find a driver on the HP support website here http://www.hp.com/#Support Put the Exact Model in the search box - you should then be asked for windows version choose vista and then look through the drivers should be a webcam
if its NOT integrated reply with the Make and Exact model of the webcam

You can't have two video cameras in operation at the same time. Video cameras are known as "streaming devices" to the operating system.

You will need to go into your device manager and "DISABLE" the one camera you don't want to use in order for the other to work properly.

New samsung r519. integrated webcam works fine

est your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

http://www.testmycam.com/

Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to WLM (MSN)

CONFIGURE SOFTWARE to MSN
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the MSN software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Open MSN
Click 'Open Menu'
From 'Tools; navigate to, and click, 'Audio and Video setup'
Set your speakers
Click 'Test' - if OK, move on.
Set your mic as default
Use the slider to set volume and test.
Click 'Next'
This takes you to the video setup
Your webcam should be broadcasting - if not - make sure the webcam is set as default - restart MSN
Use 'Webcam Settings'to fine tune the picture.
Click 'Finish'
