Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

My Kenmore Elite top loading washer keeps filling with water even though I switch it to the next cycle. It spins and drains fine during spin cycle, but keeps on filling with water! Could you please help.

how do I check the solenoid? Since I posted the problem I have also noticed that the spinner/agitator starts as soon as the lid is closed for the wash cycle even though the water has not filled up. Once the water does fill up to the correct level, it stops filling, but then restarts when the water drains out even though it may be aspin cycle. I guess the solenoid might be the problem but dont know where to find it and how to change it.

Thanks! I'll try that. The water doesnt fill all the time. When the machine is off, it doesn't fill. Similarly, when the required water level has reached, it stops filling as it should. But there are 2 or 3 signs of the problem: (1) the water fills through all cycles including the spin cycle, (2) when started with the wash cycle, th agitator starts as soon as the lid closes even though the water has not filled, and (3) I suspect it does not drain the water out completely and starts refilling. There is water left in the tub even after the end of spin cycle, and thewaterappears to have some sud. Seems to me that it drains and starts filling at the same time so the tub doesn't get fully empty. If I then restart from the rinse cycle again, the water finally drains. Any help will be appreciated!

Re:My Kenmore Elite top loading washer keeps filling with water even though I switch it to the next cycle.

If the machine fills all the time and never stops, then either the inlet valve is stuck open, or there is a contact and the inlet valve stays energized all the time.

Disconnect main power cable and disconnect inlet valve contacts. Insulate the connectors and connect power back.
If the machine keeps filling all the time, then valve is stuck open. If the machine does not fill (and does not cycle), then the inlet valve is OK and problem is either a contact, timer board, or pressure switch (this detects water level).

If you are not a tech or an experienced DIYer, I suggest simply testing the machine after tripping the circuit breaker for two minutes to reset the timer board. If that does not help call the service number on user manual and get an on site technician. This fault requires testing and replacement of parts, the problem is likely inlet valve or timer board. Pressure switch may also be involved.

Alltogether sounds like a faulty control board. The control board is difficult to test, full test involves reading volts out. before going for timer board have a look at inlet valve as suggested, and check the pressure switch. The pressure switch is difficult to test, it is a cheap part that often is faster to replace.
Before replacing try blowing into the switch tube.I don't think problem is pressure switch.
The inlet valve solenoid is tested reading Ohms. It is open (infinity), then the valve is bad.In that case the valve will normally stay closed, so this does not help. If the valve is stuck open it is either because of a faulty control board or because the valve is mechanically broken.

The shut off solenoid is not functioning correctly. Check that and the relay to it

SOURCE: kenmore washer fills during spin cycle

HI, this is just a slight clog or faulty drain pump. check the following areas.

1. Clogged drain line or water pump
Check to see if there's something stuck inside the pump or the drain hose connected to the pump (pump is usually located at the bottom and towards the back of the washing machine).

2. Water Pump
If the drain line isn't clogged, you may have a problem with the water pump such as a frozen pulley or a broken impeller. If that's the case replace the water pump. Note: if you have a belt driven washer, check the belt(s) for cracks, as this would be a perfect time to replace the belt(s) if needed.

SOURCE: Washer fill or drain but does not spin

It's not supposed to spin during water fill and draining, if I understand your post.

its suppose to start with lid down, the draining may be a faulty water level switch so this needs replaced.

Water drains during spin cycle, but tub does not spin and appears to have dropped down. Machine does aggitate.

If you can move the tub by hand laterally - the rear main bearing has likely failed - or the drum rollers are worn.

Brand new kenmore HE2 front load washer - keeps filling

Either your pressure switch is bad, or the air line that connects to the presuure switch has come loose. The pressure switch is located on the right-hand side rear of the washer with the top cover removed. It is a brown colored, disk shaped, device with an electrical connection and an air hose connection. Sometimes this hose comes loose in shipping, or the electrical connection may be loose. Without it, the washer will continue to fill and will NOT shut off. Now...if you just purchased this unit, DO NOT do anything that will void the manufacturer's warranty. It may be an inconvenience, but I would recommend you get the appliance repairman to come in and take a look at it. That way...you won't be held liable if something were to break. This is, however, usually a simple problem and not considered major. I hope this reassures you some. Post back with comments if you have any further questions/concerns.
