Question about Lenovo IdeaPad Y550 Notebook

1 Answer

I have a Lenovo Y550…before upgrading from Vista (64bit) to Window 7; the Windows upgrade advisor recommended I uninstall OneKey Recovery 6.0 because it wasn’t compatible with windows 7, so I did. After the upgrade to Windows 7, I tried installing the 64bit version of OneKey Recovery 7.0, but receive the following error message once the installer starts: "Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid. c\Drivers\Lenovo OneKey Recovery\1033.mst" Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you for your suggestion - I only wish it worked - unfortunately, it didn't. I still get the same error message "Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid. c\Drivers\Lenovo OneKey Recovery\1033.mst". This is really frustrating, but I very much appreciate your attempt.

I think i know what happened. Windows Upgrade Advisor by the name itself it means that there has to be an older version present on teh system to be UPGRADED. Have you tried installing WIN7 with OKR v6.0 then downloading OKR v7.0 try not uninstalling the OKR v6.0

>I chose not to charge you for rhis since this is more of a suggestion than a resolution... i would like to know what happened after trying this, i would greatly appreciate your comment on this, thanks!

Thank you for offering a solution, I only wish it worked - unfortunately, it didn't. As the program tries to install, I still get the same error: "Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid. c\Drivers\Lenovo OneKey Recovery\1033.mst"

This is frustrating, but I really appreciate your attempt to resolve my problem.

VGA ONLY ONBOARD

This is the driver for your card:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_96.85_2.html
It seems to be compatable up to Windows Vista so, it may, or, may not be compatable with Windows 7. If you are trying to get a driver for Windows Vista or earlier, this should work for you. Make sure you uninstall any prior driver before downloading this. If you have Windows 7 or are thinking about getting it, you can run the upgrade advisor here:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor
to see if your system and card are compatable with Windows 7.

Not sure what happened ,lost parts of my os for vista home premium 64 bit ,no sound, not even beepcodes,no text when atempting restore ,limited control in command promt, still have some stuff ,pictures...

Which do you have - Vista Home Premium or Vista Home Basic? The title of this question category and what you said you have doesn't match. I'll assume you had Home Premium 64 Bit. Yes you can upgrade to Windows 7, 64 Bit. Please be aware that there is the 64 Bit and the 32 Bit versions. Check with your OEM of the computer before you upgrade. In the upgrade process, Windows 7 will create a folder called "windows.old" once the install has completed. There you will find the data you had from the old operating system like pictures and documents. Before you do the upgrade, I recommend downloading and installing the Windows 7 Advisor to check on any software and hardware issues - the advisor will list those problems before you can upgrade so that you can make the corrections.

Is there any other OS that is compatible with windows 7? All of my software is for my Vista. Is ther anything else I can do to make my OS more compatible?

Programs released before the market release of Windows 7 are most likely XP and Vista compatible only. What I recommend is to check the websites of those programs for available updates or upgrades. Newer versions of software are Windows 7 compatible.

I will recommend that you download and run the free Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. It helps find issues with your computer’s hardware, devices that might affect installing Windows 7. Go to the Windows 7 Compatibility Center find direct links to drivers, updates, and downloads.
