Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

My ISP is Orange. I have the Phillips SNK560 which I can't get to connect to the internet. I can connect through the old broadband Speedtouch modem though so there is nothing wrong with the connection. There must be a setting that I am missing somewhere.

Thanks for that. I have spoken to Orange who, after going through thier settings, have told me to speak to Phillips who, after going through the modems settings, have told me to speak to Orange. I will try again when I get home. I have all the Orange settings so it should connect. Perhaps you could give me a support number for Phillips so I can call someone who is knowledgable in this particular field.

Yes, you may need to configure the router first, try calling your provider to help you set this up or Philips to help you setup the router.

Say, the speedtouch modem that you have, does it have an ethernet connection to it?

Your ISP, is this a cable/wireless or DSL connection?

I see, then you are replacing this speedtouch modem with the philips, right? The most common problem here would be the compatibility of the device. Your ISP should be able to help you configure this philips device.

You can try this, Make a conference between your ISP and Philips and have them configure the settings for you. Also ask if the philips device is compatible with your ISP.

To connect to the Internet, certain hardware and services are needed, which are listed below. Without any one of these items, connection to the Internet is not possible.
  • Broadband Internet Service (also known as Internet Service Providers or ISP) - Telephone companies (also known as DSL, which uses a telephone line) and cable TV companies usually offer Internet service.

  • Broadband Modem - Normally, a broadband modem can be rented or purchased from the ISP.

  • Computer with a Network Adapter - This is usually a device located inside the computer.

  • Broadband Router - A router is used to connect all of your computers to the network (but is not needed for a single computer). The router also provides a way to connect to the Internet through the Broadband Modem.

I dont know haow to connect Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster WRT54GS - wireless router

  1. Connect your modem to the Internet port of the router. Your computer needs to be connected to one of the 4 Ethernet ports at the back of the router.
  2. Access the router's setup page by launching Internet explorer and typing 192.168.1.1.
  3. It will ask for a username and password. Leave the username blank and password is admin.
  4. Once your in the setup page, set "Internet connection type" with what your ISP requires you to have.
  5. If you have cable ISP, usually it is "Automatic Configuration-DHCP."
  6. But if you have DSL ISP, then it will be PPPoE. You need to know your username and password from your ISP.
  7. Better yet, verify your Internet connection type from your Internet service provider.
Hope this helps!

I have a speedtouch modem with no cd to set it up using the wizard

You don't need the CD.
If all the lights are showing green when you plug it into the phone line, power and the ethernet or USB port on your computer, then all you need to do is go to Control Panel>Internet Options, click the connections tab and then click SetUp. Follow the setup wizard and select "connect to the internert> set up my connection manually>connect to a braodband connection that is always on.
Your user name and password should have been installed into the modem before it was sent to you by your ISP.

INTERNET PROPLEMS

you need
  • you need a phone line that is active for dial up,or non active for naked adsl
  • you need a dial up modem if you want dial up, adsl modem for broadband
  • sign up with an ISP (monthly cost) and obtain user name and password
  • enter user name and password (generaly via ISP cd) into (adsl)modem or setup dial up connection in windows
  • wait for ISP to notify you the line has been activated, for adsl, not dial up.
all should be good

good luck

well...this is a settings issue for smtp and pop servers..if you're on the same DSL or cable service, than those should be identical..just ckeck em to make sure..and the port assignments sometimes need to be different for different modems..check with your ISP and modem maker for this information.

Wireless routers

most routers are compatible with many of the ISP's, due to conventions for use..you may want to go on google, and do a comparison..

I have some links to the big three, here, if you'd like to evaluate them from a technical standpoint.
