Burn xp into a cd. or get a recovery disk..if neither does not work search the net for an partition manager. delete the partition that has the non-workin xp on it then try to re- install..

Check your BIOS. If it rebooted chances are it might work if you change the way the BIOS sees and boots the devices. Try rebooting without the flash drive in. What happens?

You basically are stuck unless you load a bootable OS. My suggestion would be to say the heck with XP and load a free OS like linux, try damn small linux. It fits on most thumb drives and will be bootable (should make life easy) http://damnsmalllinux.org/

Are you really stuck on Windows XP for some reason? If so, you are in trouble b/c the hard drive doesn't have the correct drivers it needs to recoginize the thumb drive. You will probably have to get a external CD Rom...

Can I install windows on my dell optiplex gx110 using flash drive(USB)?

I would say yes, as long as you can get it boot from the USB. Check BIOS. Are installing you Win 95, 98, or XP? I ask because the manual has reference to Y2K.

You just want to keep it as a Linux box. Have Fun!

Insert XP CD into drive, reboot pc pressing F1 button.. This takes you into BIOS, change your primary boot device to CDrom, save changes and reboot. Select boot from CD once this appears and wait for files to be installed. Select the part of the hard drive you wish to use for your operating system (usually the largest) and select partition this drive. Delete any previous os, and reformat hard drive. (Be aware this removes everything saved on your hard drive, so always back up first) Re boot afterwards and reinstall operating system.
Try the above solution and let me know how you get on?

Cannot find the usb plug in for the usb flash drive.

Just below the power button, there is a light grey panel with the Dell logo on it. Lift this open; careful, it does not open all the way.
