Question about Transcend StoreJet 2.5 (TS120GSJ25T) 120 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive

StoreJet 2.5 Spinning properly(sounds) but not detected

Hi
My StoreJet i bought in 2005 stopped getting detected by my computer all of the sudden. I tried 3 different computers, none can detected it. I've tested the USB cable on a different device and it seems to be working. It sounds to be spinning properly and does not have clicking sound. I hope it is not broken.

I have not recently installed any new programs on my computer and I simply turned off my laptop and unplugged it as i usually do. It stopped working as I plugged it in again hours later.

I've also tried taking the hard drive out and placing it back.

I really hope it is not broken
I take good care of this product but do you think it is because of the problem of the Harddrive case? or is it the problem of the Harddrive itself.

    The EXACT same thing happened to me. I bought mine in 2007.

    Mine is behaving the exact same way. I can hear it spinning (no clicking) and the light blinks when I first plug it in, but my computer does not recognize it.

If it came with a Y USB cable -- try connecting both "Computer" USB ends to the computer ports. It could be power issue. Worked for me.

Try the drive in a new case. if that dosent work the drive is dead.

turn your device on but dont conect it to pc. wait 15 seconds and then when conecting it to your computer watch if activity light blinks and put the device by your ear. you should earing it spinning like a fan but with a metallic noises. if nothing from the above happens, unplug all cables open the device case pull the harddrive out from is socket and put it back in. 95% of the cases its a bad pin contact. in most cases a little knock on the back of the device solve the problem but not too hard as you could damage your device. If when you connect it to the computer the light blinks and you can ear the drive spinning then the problem could be related to faulty cables or device harware. please reply if you need more help.

Hi, It was working fine with windows xp and a dvd drive, suddenly its not getting detected in either ports, but the blue light is on this is Transcend 500GB storejet



Try to refresh the USB ports.

1. Right-click My Computer icon on the desktop, and then select Properties.
2. Click the Hardware tab.
3. Click the Device Manager button.
4. Click the plus (+) sign to the left of Universal Serial Bus controllers.
5. Right-click the device listed under Universal Serial Bus controller and select Uninstall.
6. Click OK to confirm the removal of the device.

Please note, repeat Steps 5 and 6 until all the devices under Universal Serial Bus Controller are removed.

7. Shut down the computer.

CAUTION: Ensure that the Shut Down option is selected, instead of the Restart option.

8. Wait for 5 seconds and then restart the computer. When the computer restarts, a "Windows has detected new or added hardware" message window will open.

The above steps will refresh the USB ports.

Now connect the USB devices like mouse, video camera, your external usb hard disk...usb hubs...whatever you like and the drivers should install automatically.

Tip: It is always recommended to connect the main usb devices at the rear end usb port, as they require more power to initiate.

My passport 500gb external just stopped working. It froze up so I removed it and plugged it back in. When I plugged it back into my computer it starts spinning but then makes a click sound and stops.


The clicking sound is caused by the spindle inside the hardrive, because it was not removed properly. Just connect you external hardrive to your computer, if it makes the clicking sound again dont remove it yet, just restart your computer properly. In that way all the devices connected to the computer will be refreshed and properly shut down. If it is not detected still, unplug the haardrive then try another USB port. Recommended ports are at the back of the CPU if your using a desktop. These USB ports have higher voltage output that can power up all external hardrives properly.

Try connecting it to a different computer. If still not detected, it is "defective".
Take it back to where you bought it, and exercise the warranty to get it replaced, at no cost to you.

For that case you need to detouch the enclosure of that device there must be something wrong with the enclosure. No worry the disc inside of it is not affected. You need to get the support coming from your reseller because I believe it was still under warranty.

Nothing happens whe hard drive is connected


It might happen sometime if you accidently plug out your HDD before stopping it. Just check whether drive is spinning or not. You can check that by placing your hand on it to check its vibrations. If it vibrating then you can use some recovery software to recover the drive e.g. PC File recovery/USB recovery or Easy recovery. After recovery you can format the disk and start using it again. If your HDD is not spinning then it is better you replace it.
