Question about Acer Aspire 6920 Notebook PC

2 Answers

Laptop won't boot up. It says 'windows error recovery' and I then have the option of either 'launch start up repair (recommended)' or 'start windows normally' neither option works gets me anywhere I just go round in circles. I have tried f11 which has been a temp solution but I'm having the same problem again and I don't want to have to restore to factory settings each time this occurs. Also unable to boot in safe mode.

Once you enter the setup and it loads the entire program, then you need to press the R key, which is for repairing the windows installation. This action will take you to the dos mode where further processing will be done. In the dos mode, system will ask you about installation place. Most of the people install their operating system in the C drive, which comes at number 1 option, so you need to press option 1. However, if you have so many partitions or you have installed the operating system then you need to choose the option according to your drive name. Here you need to enter your password as well, but if you have not set any password then you can simply press enter.
*Then there will be a c:\WINDOWS> command in a dos mode where you need to write, "Copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\windows. However, if you have different place of your installed operating system then you will write the address of that drive. This is the whole process and now you can eject the cd and can press exit to restart the system. Now this process will copy the correct NTLDR file from installation disk to your hard drive by making your system in the working condition.

Aspire 5475 freezes on startup

It is most certainly a driver, but if you cant access the safe mode also that could be a hardware issue.. Try to troubleshoot with a windows installation cd. Put it in and boot the pc. It will start the windows instalation, you choose repair computer and not install windows. The command prompt will open, try to troubleshoot from there.. Thanks!

When I turn on my laptop it goes to a windows error recovery page and gives me the options to launch startup repair or start windows normally. When I launch the startup repair my screen goes black and only...

Hello.

Sounds like the Windows Recovery Partition is corrupted or your hard drive may be faulty.

But, first try to boot your system in Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly as it boots) and choose Safe Mode or Last Known Good.

If it still doesn't boot properly, try the diagnostics to determine if a hardware problem - boot your system and press F 12 (or F2) repeatedly.

Hope this helps.

Windows 7 won't bootup, has error recovery. it loads files then nothing. screen is black.

Had that problem a few times myself.
Only way I could fix was to restore back to factory condition.
As you boot, watch bottom of screen closely.
depending on system, Should need to press F2, F10, possibly F12, might even be Del.
Most likely you didn't get restore disk, or have made one.
If you do, insert disk before boot up. System should boot to DvD.
Don't forget once restored to update.
Hope this helps

Laptop won't starup (Black screen displayed) Help me please!!

Try this.

Turn the computer on and immediately press and hold the F8 key.

On the Advanced Boot Options menu, choose Repair Your Computer.

When you reach the System Recovery Options menu, choose Startup Repair. You already did that, but try it again.

If that doesn't do the work, go back to the System Recovery Options menu and do a System Restore.
You can use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) to troubleshoot and repair the following items in Windows Vista or Windows 7:
  • A master boot record (MBR)
  • A boot sector
  • A Boot Configuration Data (BCD) store
Note When you are troubleshooting startup issues by using the Windows RE, you should first try the Startup Repair option in the System Recovery Options dialog box. If the Startup Repair option does not resolve the issue, or if you must troubleshoot more steps manually, use the Bootrec.exe tool.

To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Put the Windows installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
  • Press a key when you are prompted.
  • Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
  • Click Repair your computer.
  • Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
  • In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
  • Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.
Note To start the computer from the Windows DVD, the computer must be configured to start from the DVD drive. For more information about how to configure the computer to start from the DVD drive, see the documentation that is included with the computer or contact the computer manufacturer.

Thank you Sir, Have a nice day.
