Hi ..i want to know what kind of tachometer i need to use to chek the chainsaw RPM

Boy oh boy there are a lot of tachos here, unfortunatly non i would choose, you need a tacho that picks up the spark pulse from the spark plug, not one that requires a photo tape placed on the machine, Both Husqvarna and Stihl retail good quaility tachos, just place it near the spark plug and it gives a very accurate reading, they are called DET102 the Husqy part no. is 502711401.

Have an old pioneer p38 chainsaw, belongs to the old man. hasn't been started for a few years. replaced fuel gave it a clean thats all, wont go.

You need to disassemble the carburetor and check the diaphragm. You need to blow nozzle of carburetor. If the fuel was left in him, now it has remaining traces of oil. You can try to start with a small pump to inject fuel directly into the intake of the air into the carburetor. Of course, the spark has to be here to start. Older chainsaws had a switch and a capacitor, which is very difficult to adjust. Newer chainsaws have electronic ignition, so it is easier for test. Most of carburator has three buttons to adjust. L (low), H (high) for fuel injection at low and high speeds. There is also a minimum (the chain must be stationary if it is well tuned). The chainsaw is set at low rpm throttle with screws ( L ), and its vivacity is set at high speeds ( H screw ). In the beginning is good put both to set at 1.5 turns from full closure. And then, if the chainsaw starts, you can adjust a carburetor work. Careful with adjusting with H due to high speed. Good luck!

I was given a Pioneer chainsaw. It wont start. Has spark good compresion. I pull the carb. off and clean it. It was dirty. Put back together and it still wouldnt run. Can you help me? I dont have the jet...

get a product called START. its made by gold eagle. it is an amazing product. i have used it many times. in their promo they add it to a chainsaw with old gas in it. 2 or 3 pulls and it started right up. i have cleaned carbs and they wont start, add this and they start. the longer it runs the cleaner things get and the better it runs.
the standard settings for the low jet is 1 1/4 turns out. the hi jet is 1 3/4 turns out ,that should allow you to start the saw. Once the saw is started adjust the low jet first, try to get the highest rpm at idle then turn it back out 1/8 of a turn . the hi speed jet is adjusted by holding the throtle wide open find the highest rpm, then back it out until you hear the rpm drop
