Some times water will not drain out right need to clean the drain pan, blower wheel will also catch dirt and build up mold. The front cover should come off easy, there should be three screws on the bottom and it should pop right off after that, exposing the pan and blower wheel . Clean as needed.

We seem to be getting a musty smell in the room especially as the day goes on and the weather is hotter outside. Do they make any charcoal filters? Deodorizers?

There is a deodorizing filter which (usually) comes with the unit located behind the normal filters (spongy black material). This filter is washable, however usually this odor is associated with a dirty blower wheel and/or coil. Generally speaking you should have the unit cleaned properly every 1-3 years depending on your local average humidity. This entails pulling half of the indoor unit apart and is not recommended to the inexperienced. If you do choose to attempt this on your own then you will need a basic tool set to remove the blower wheel and a good solvent (Simple Green works well as a substitute for a NaOH solution) to clean the evaporator. Make absolute certain that the main power is off before attempting anything. Additionally there are thermistors located on the coil itself and the front cover who's location is critical to proper operation, so make good note of where each part came from to ensure it goes back properly. Take your time and have fun.

There's a bad smell coming from my Amcor AF9000E NanMax portable AC unit. It smells like the smell that you would find in a damp, musty basement. Is there anything that I can do to illuminate this...

Yes there is. First turn the unit OFF & unplug it. The remove the air intake filter and clean it. After that, remove the water collection bucket and was it in warm water and mild dish washing liquid. Rinse and thoroughly dry. Doing this should help to eliminate the odor.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Our mitsubishi split system heat pump MSZ-A 12NA is emitting an odor - swamp water smell.

Usually if you get a musty smell, the unit is short cycling. This means the compressor is coming on, then turning off for a couple minutes, then coming back on. The best way to tell if this is the issue is to turn the unit way down stand outside and see if the compressor is turning on and off. If it's staying on, let me know and we will go from there.

My dehumidifier will not stop running coils frost up musty odor from it

there is a freeze stat on the unit it connects to the evaporater coils it is suppose to shut of the compressor unit when it senses the temp is at freezing the idea is that the unit condenses moisture out of the air like your air conditioner for your house or car this part is dirty or malfunctionong

Dirt blowing out vents and has a bad (musty) odor

If you live in a dusty area it is a good idea to use the recirc button on your a/c control head. This will keep the dust to a minimum.
To get rid of the smell you can take a bottle of air freshener and spray it in the heater box air intake that is located just below the windshield on the right hand side of the van. Do this with the a/c on and blowers on high.
If you use recirc as much as possible the dust should slowly work it way out of the system.
If these fixes don't help the dash will have to be removed and a/c evaporator will have to be cleaned or replaced.
